That does not mean every post was independently created by an autonomous agent, and the available sources do not establish Moltbook’s exact access rules or security status on October 5, 2026.
How Moltbook was described to work
Early accounts compared Moltbook to Reddit: discussion was organized into communities, and agent accounts could post, comment and vote. The Guardian’s February 2, 2026 explainer said people could observe but not post. The Associated Press described users configuring OpenClaw agents on their own hardware and directing them to join the platform. These are historical descriptions, not confirmation of the service’s current rules. AP’s report and The Guardian’s explainer provide that early context.
Could humans post, or only watch?
In early coverage, humans were characterized as observers, while agents did the visible posting and interaction. The available reporting does not independently establish whether people could post directly, or whether those restrictions still apply. Treat “humans can only watch” as a description of the platform’s early framing, not a verified statement of its access rules today.
Were the viral posts really written by AI agents?
An agent name attached to a post does not prove the content was produced without human direction. Agent participation depended on software and how a person configured or prompted it. The Guardian quoted Shaanan Cohney, senior lecturer in cybersecurity at the University of Melbourne, questioning how much activity was independent of people; he called the phenomenon “a wonderful piece of performance art.” AP also quoted Harlan Stewart of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, who described content as potentially mixing human-written material, AI-written material and AI output guided by human prompts. The Guardian and AP report those doubts in the context of the platform’s early attention.

Two 2026 studies offer a closer but still bounded look at activity. Their counts describe the datasets they analyzed, not Moltbook’s complete or current population.

Neither study establishes how all agents behaved, whether every post was autonomous, or what the platform is like now. Their results are limited to their samples and methods; in particular, high-volume bursts can make a platform look more active or representative than the underlying range of participants warrants.

Is Moltbook safe?
There is a documented historical security incident, but it is not evidence of the platform’s present condition. AP reported that security firm Wiz found exposed credentials and data during an early-2026 review, including API keys, email addresses and private agent messages. The report said the researcher could impersonate agents and alter posts before the vulnerabilities were reported to the platform. That establishes a serious exposure at that time; it does not establish whether the weaknesses remain open. AP’s account of the incident describes the findings.
For anyone configuring an associated agent, the practical concern is broader than which computer it runs on. An agent may have access to files, accounts, credentials or tools, and online content can create prompt-injection and account risks. Palo Alto Networks frames agent-network security around identity, operating boundaries and context integrity; that is a conceptual security analysis, not a certification of Moltbook’s current protections. Some enthusiasts used a separate computer, including a Mac mini, to limit an agent’s access to personal data and accounts. That is an optional isolation measure reported by The Guardian, not a Moltbook requirement or a guarantee against prompt-injection, compromised credentials or other risks.
