Apple’s reported Siri tests with WhatsApp and YouTube were not confirmation that either app already supports every Siri action. The app names appeared in an August 2025 report about testing. Apple later announced Siri AI and explained how developers can make app content and actions available through App Intents, but its public materials do not establish which WhatsApp or YouTube actions are live today.
What was reported about WhatsApp and YouTube?
On August 10, 2025, MacRumors reported, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that Apple was testing a revamped Siri with selected third-party apps. The article named Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and some games. It described the work as an upgraded App Intents effort intended to let Siri carry out actions inside apps. What did Apple later announce?
On June 8, 2026, Apple announced Siri AI capabilities including onscreen awareness, personal context, information across apps and the web, and support for actions across apps. How can apps work with Siri?
Apple describes App Intents as a structured way for developers to tell the system what content an app manages and what actions it can perform. Developers define the relevant entities, parameters and actions; Siri can then interpret a request and resolve it against what the app has exposed. An app’s integration therefore depends on the content and actions its developer makes available—it does not mean Siri can automatically control every feature in that app.

Apple also describes onscreen context: an app can annotate views so Siri can understand which visible item a user means by phrases such as “this.” In its WWDC26 session, software engineer Dan Niemeyer called App Intents “the foundation for integrating your Apple Siri and Apple Intelligence” and said they provide a structured way to describe an app’s actions and content. - Spotlight: check that app content and entities are indexed as intended.
- Siri: test the complete natural-language experience, including realistic phrases and variations in wording.
Apple says the APIs discussed in the session are available for its 27 releases. The session describes a developer workflow, not a guarantee that any specific third-party app has completed integration or that its actions are generally available.
What beta demonstrations have shown
In a July 6, 2026 hands-on report based on an iOS 27 developer beta, Tom’s Guide reporter Scott Younker described searching a photo library with a natural-language visual description, asking Siri to copy text from visible content, and performing multi-step actions across apps. Younker cautioned that developer beta software could change and might not be stable. Which devices and regions were included in Apple’s announcement?
Apple’s June 8, 2026 announcement said Siri AI was available for developer testing across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and visionOS 27, with a user beta planned later in 2026. Apple listed these compatible device families:
- iPhone 16 models or later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
- iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPads with M1 or later.
- Macs with M1 or later.
- Apple Vision Pro.
- Specified Apple Watch models paired with a supported iPhone.
Apple said some features might not be available in all regions or languages. It also specified that Mac and Apple Vision Pro users in the EU could access Siri AI in a supported language, while iOS, iPadOS and watchOS access would not initially be available there. Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features would not be available in China while regulatory requirements were being addressed. Consult Apple’s announcement for its device and rollout details before making a compatibility or purchase decision; availability can change.

What this means if you use WhatsApp or YouTube
The evidence supports a distinction between reported testing and confirmed app functionality. WhatsApp and YouTube were among apps named in the 2025 report, and Apple later announced a Siri direction built around cross-app capabilities and developer-defined App Intents. The cited public materials do not provide a current checklist of Siri actions for either app, nor do they establish regional availability for those actions. Check the apps’ current release information and Apple’s availability details for confirmation rather than assuming that the reported test list represents features you can use now.
