What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Choose a styling service by matching its format to the job you need done: an outfit recommendation, help sorting your existing closet, virtual advice, or clothes delivered to try at home. Before booking, compare the full fee, how the stylist learns your preferences, how much control you have over orders, return terms, and whether the service covers your location.
Start with the wardrobe problem you want to solve
“Personal styling” can mean very different things. Decide on a specific outcome first; that makes it easier to rule out services that do not address your need.
- Choose an outfit or find a particular item: A retailer’s appointment or digital outfit recommendations may be enough.
- Make better use of clothes you already own: Look for a closet consultation that reviews existing pieces and helps decide what to keep, alter, or donate.
- Get recommendations remotely: Virtual appointments, Style Boards, or an online profile-based service can reduce the need to visit a store.
- Try a selection of new clothes at home: Consider a curated delivery service, and check whether deliveries are optional or scheduled to recur.
For example, Nordstrom describes online product videos and outfit recommendations, Style Boards, in-store or virtual appointments, and in-home services. Its in-home appointment is for choosing an item, outfit, or wardrobe; its longer closet consultation focuses on what to keep, alter, or donate. Stitch Fix describes an online profile and a human-stylist Fix delivery model. These are examples of different service formats, not evidence that one produces better results than another.
Compare the service before you compare the price
Use the same questions for each option so you can see what is included and what the fee actually buys.
#1 Best Overall
| What to compare | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Stylist involvement | Is the help a one-to-one conversation, a personalized board or recommendation, or a human-curated delivery? |
| Existing wardrobe | Will the stylist review clothes you own, or are recommendations limited to items the retailer sells? |
| Fit and preferences | How does the service collect your sizes, fit preferences, budget, style, lifestyle, and preferred brands or stores? Can you add notes or feedback? |
| Trying clothes | Can you try items at home? What happens to items you do not keep? |
| Cost and payment | Is there an appointment or styling fee, an item purchase requirement, a credit, gift card, or other condition? Is the fee refundable? |
| Ordering cadence | Are deliveries one-time, on demand, or recurring? How do you pause, reschedule, or cancel? |
| Location and scope | Does the service operate where you live, and does it cover the particular goal you have? |
Do not treat “free” as the whole cost. A free appointment may be tied to a purchase or store credit, while a styling fee may be applied to items you keep. Check the fee, credits, gift-card conditions, item prices, shipping, returns, and refund rules together.

Rank #2
Nordstrom: in-home styling and closet consultation
Nordstrom’s Nordstrom to You page lists an appointment of up to one hour for $50 and a closet consultation of up to three hours for $300. The fee is covered by a Nordstrom gift card that can be used for Nordstrom purchases or alterations. The service is described as available at a home, office, or hotel within 15 miles of selected Nordstrom stores, so check whether your location qualifies.
Stitch Fix: curated delivery
Stitch Fix says shipping and returns are free. Its support page states that after the first Fix, the styling fee is $20 per shipment and is credited toward items kept in that order; the fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred or rolled over. The same page states that keeping five or more items brings a 20% discount on the entire purchase, subject to its terms. Confirm current terms and any promotions before placing an order.
Recommended Free Tools
Stitch Fix’s pricing page search result says there is no subscription requirement and that Freestyle shopping has no styling fee, but the pricing page was not directly accessible for verification. Check Stitch Fix’s current pricing page and your checkout screen for those details rather than assuming they apply to every order or offer.
Assess the intake and feedback process
A stylist can only act on the information the service collects and the feedback it allows. Ask how you can communicate the fit problem or wardrobe goal that matters most to you—for example, finding work outfits, accommodating a particular fit preference, or coordinating new items with clothes you already own.
Rank #4
Stitch Fix says its style quiz collects size, fit preferences, style, lifestyle, and budget information. Its account-creation and Fix guidance describe a profile-based process; review how to create a Stitch Fix account and how the Fix experience works to see how its own process is presented.
For any service, ask whether you can request specific items, name preferred retailers, provide feedback on past recommendations, or have the stylist work with pieces you already own. Do not assume that every service can source across retailers or review your current closet; confirm that capability directly.

Use this checklist before you commit
- State the outcome: What exact wardrobe task do you want help with, and does this service cover it?
- Confirm the intake: How will the stylist learn your size, fit, budget, preferred stores, and existing wardrobe?
- Check your control: Can you request items or provide feedback? Can recommendations account for clothes you already own?
- Calculate the full cost: When is each fee charged? Is it refundable, credited, or tied to a gift card or purchase?
- Understand delivery control: Are orders optional or recurring, and how do you pause, reschedule, or cancel?
- Read the return terms: Check the return window, shipping costs, and rules for items you do not keep.
- Verify service area and fit: Does it serve your location, and can you see examples relevant to your needs?
For an at-home outfit check, a full-length mirror may be useful, but it is optional. The important decision is whether the service itself fits your wardrobe goal and terms.
Know what a service page can—and cannot—tell you
Company pages establish how a provider describes its own offer, fees, and procedures; they do not establish independent stylist credentials, universal quality standards, or comparative results. If expertise or a particular approach matters to you, ask about the individual stylist’s relevant experience and request examples related to your goal before booking.
Nordstrom’s styling services overview describes its digital, virtual, and in-store formats. Availability and details can vary, so verify the current offer with the provider.
