Infoblox and Google Cloud announced a two-part collaboration on April 9, 2025: Universal DDI for Google Cloud WAN, which delivers DNS and DHCP services across connected enterprise environments, and Google Cloud DNS Armor powered by Infoblox, which inspects DNS queries from Google Cloud workloads for threats. The services address different needs—network service delivery and protective DNS—and should not be treated as interchangeable products.

What the partnership includes

The companies position the collaboration as a way to support enterprise connectivity and security across branches, data centers, on-premises systems, and multiple clouds. Its networking component combines Google Cloud Cross-Cloud Network with Infoblox NIOS-X as a Service. Its security component brings Infoblox Threat Defense into Google Cloud DNS Armor. The announcement describes the partnership and its intended benefits; it does not establish independently measured performance results. Infoblox’s April 9, 2025 announcement.

How the two services differ

Area Universal DDI for Google Cloud WAN Google Cloud DNS Armor powered by Infoblox
Primary purpose Deliver DNS and DHCP services across connected enterprise sites and cloud environments. Inspect internet-bound DNS queries generated by Google Cloud workloads for malicious activity.
Main integration Infoblox NIOS-X as a Service with Google Cloud Cross-Cloud Network. Google Cloud workloads with Infoblox Threat Defense and Google Cloud logging and security tools.
Operational focus Network service delivery and DNS, DHCP, and IP address management across sites and clouds. Protective DNS visibility, threat detection, and security-log workflows.
Availability evidence Infoblox says it is available through Google Cloud Marketplace; its solution note identifies a private-offer procurement route. Google described it as in preview on September 17, 2025. The reviewed dated material does not establish its current availability stage.
Implementation context The cited deployment guide requires an active Universal DDI subscription and describes VPC, VPN, redundant IPsec tunnels, and dynamic BGP routing. Google’s September 2025 post describes project-level enablement and threat-log integration.

What Universal DDI for Google Cloud WAN does

Infoblox’s broader Universal DDI suite brings DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (IPAM) into a centrally managed service. The specific Google Cloud WAN integration is described as connecting NIOS-X as a Service DNS and DHCP capabilities to Google Cloud Cross-Cloud Network. That distinction matters: IPAM is part of the wider DDI suite, while the Cloud WAN announcement specifically emphasizes DNS and DHCP delivery. Infoblox’s Universal DDI for Google Cloud WAN solution note.

Infoblox describes the service as delivering DNS and DHCP without dedicated on-premises hardware or virtual servers. The company identifies infrastructure modernization, branch transformation, and multicloud migration as use cases. It says the offering is available through Google Cloud Marketplace, with the solution note specifying a private offer—an enterprise procurement route rather than an ordinary consumer purchase.

Deployment considerations

The Infoblox deployment guide outlines a Google Cloud VPC connected through a Cloud VPN gateway and paired IPsec VPN tunnels, using dynamic BGP routing. It requires an active Universal DDI subscription and states that static routing is not supported for the connection described in that guide. These are guide-specific requirements; implementers should check current vendor documentation before designing a deployment. Infoblox’s deployment guide.

How DNS Armor protects Google Cloud workloads

DNS Armor is the protective-DNS part of the collaboration. It checks internet-bound DNS queries generated by Google Cloud workloads using Infoblox Threat Defense. Google’s September 17, 2025 description says threat logs can flow into Cloud Logging and be forwarded to Security Command Center, Google Security Operations, or a preferred SIEM. Google also described DNS Armor at that time as a managed service with no VMs to manage and project-level enablement. These are product descriptions in that dated post, not an independent assessment of outcomes. Google Cloud’s DNS Armor announcement.

  • EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.

Availability is time-sensitive

Google called DNS Armor a preview offering in its September 17, 2025 post, and an Infoblox update from September 2025 also described it as public preview. Those statements establish the status reported at that time, not its status as of October 2026. Organizations evaluating it should confirm the current availability and eligibility terms in Google Cloud’s product documentation.

How to interpret the performance claims

The announcement and product materials include vendor claims that need careful attribution. Infoblox’s April 9, 2025 announcement says DNS Armor can detect threats 63 days earlier than other solutions. Google’s September 17, 2025 post gives a different figure—68 days earlier than complimentary security tools. The comparison wording and numbers differ, and the cited materials do not establish a methodology that reconciles them. Neither figure should be treated as an independently validated or universal result.

Which part addresses a particular need?

  • Choose the Universal DDI discussion when the requirement is network services: DNS and DHCP delivery across enterprise sites and cloud environments, within a broader DDI management approach.
  • Evaluate DNS Armor when the requirement is protective DNS: inspecting Google Cloud workload queries and routing threat information into cloud logging or security operations workflows.
  • Consider both when both needs exist: they are complementary components, but their procurement, deployment, and operational roles differ.

Neither offering is a consumer product. Universal DDI for Google Cloud WAN is presented as a Marketplace private-offer service, while DNS Armor is a cloud security service; generic routers, servers, or accessories would not be a direct substitute for either.
