Google does pay Samsung under a worldwide agreement tied to Gemini on qualifying devices, but the public court record does not reveal how much. A September 2, 2025 court opinion describes fixed monthly payments, device-activation bounties and revenue sharing, while redacting the dollar amounts and percentages.
How much is Google paying Samsung for Gemini?
The public record confirms that Google and Samsung have a Gemini Commercial Agreement, but it does not disclose a total payment or a revenue-share percentage. The agreement’s amounts are redacted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia’s September 2, 2025 opinion and in the related remedies filing. The headline description “enormous” therefore cannot be translated into a substantiated dollar figure.
The court describes three kinds of compensation:
- Fixed payments: Monthly payments tied to Gemini app usage key performance indicators.
- Bounties: Payments tied to device activation. The bounty varies by geography and by whether the device is new or already in circulation.
- Revenue sharing: A share of Gemini advertising and subscription revenue.
The opinion treats this Gemini agreement as separate from the Google-Samsung search revenue-share agreement. The two should not be conflated when discussing Samsung’s compensation.
Which Samsung devices qualify?
The agreement pays Samsung only for devices meeting its “Gemini Qualified Devices” conditions. For new qualifying devices, the court says Gemini must be preinstalled and placed in the app tray, either alphabetically or beside the Play Store icon. The device’s long-press side key and hotword must invoke Gemini by default.

Google may also select other Gemini entry points during device setup. Samsung must install AICore and Gemini Nano when a device meets the applicable technical requirements. These terms describe conditions for qualifying devices under the agreement; they do not establish that every Samsung device or model receives the same treatment or payment.
How long does the agreement last?
The worldwide agreement took effect January 1, 2025, and its stated term runs through December 31, 2027. It automatically renews for one year through December 31, 2028. Those dates describe the term in the court’s account, not a disclosed payment total or a guarantee about the agreement’s financial status after subsequent developments.

Did the Google antitrust remedies change the deal?
On September 2, 2025, the court ordered remedies that restrict certain exclusive distribution contracts. Among other limits, Google may not condition the licensing of Google applications on distribution, preloading or placement of Google Search, Chrome, Google Assistant or Gemini. The remedies also limit certain revenue-share conditions and prohibit agreements that prevent partners from simultaneously distributing another general search engine, browser or generative AI product.
Those restrictions are distinct from the earlier agreement’s stated terms. The remedies do not, on their own, establish that this specific Samsung agreement was voided or disclose what Google pays under it.

That announcement confirms continued product integration, but it does not state the value or current financial status of the Gemini Commercial Agreement.
