A report published in August 2024 said that JSON files visible in an Apple developer beta for Mac contained instructions associated with Apple Intelligence features in Mail and Photos. The account offers a glimpse of how those features may have been guided, but the exact prompt wording and file paths have not been independently verified.
What the hidden files reportedly contained
On August 7, 2024, MobileSyrup reporter Brad Bennett reported that people using the latest Apple Developer Beta on Mac could inspect some files related to Apple Intelligence. The article said Reddit user devanxd2000 had posted the prompts and instructions for finding them, and that a JSON editor was needed to read the files. MobileSyrup characterized the prompts as simple and direct. MobileSyrup’s report is the source for these observations; the underlying Reddit post and files were not available for independent verification.
Mail: summaries and replies
According to the report, some file instructions were associated with summarizing messages and generating replies in Mail. The report did not provide independently verifiable prompt text, so it is not possible to quote or reliably reconstruct what those instructions said.
Photos: Memories
The report also associated files with creating Photos Memories. It did not establish the precise wording used to guide that feature or how the files affected the finished memory.

What Apple later documented about the features
In an announcement dated October 28, 2024, Apple described Apple Intelligence features including summaries and Smart Reply in Mail, as well as Photos Memories that can create a movie from a typed description. These public descriptions establish that Apple documented related user-facing capabilities; they do not confirm the specific beta files or their contents. Apple’s announcement describes the features from the product perspective.
What the report does—and does not—establish
- Reported observation: MobileSyrup said JSON files could be inspected in an Apple developer beta on Mac and linked their instructions to Mail and Photos features.
- Not independently established: The exact prompt wording, the files’ paths, and whether those same files remain in current releases.
- Official feature context: Apple later described related Mail and Photos capabilities publicly, without authenticating the reported hidden files.
The distinction matters: a beta file that appears to contain instructions is not, by itself, proof of the exact behavior of a shipping feature. Apple’s public feature descriptions explain what users can do, not which internal prompts or implementation details produced the result.
