“Microsoft developer sites” is a general term for Microsoft’s official online documentation and related resources for building with Microsoft technologies. It describes a group of destinations—not one site or a formal product name. Microsoft Learn is a central documentation destination, with other resources organized around products and platforms such as Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows, and Microsoft Cloud.
What you’ll find on Microsoft developer sites
The content depends on the product, but Microsoft’s developer resources can include instructions for getting started, tutorials, API references, SDKs and other tools, code samples, release information, training, publishing guidance, and community or support routes. Some destinations combine several of these; others focus on a particular product or task.
Microsoft Learn’s technical documentation is one broad starting point for in-depth articles about Microsoft developer tools and technologies. Its product index helps readers locate documentation by product or platform.
Which Microsoft developer destination should you use?
Start with the product you are building for or the task you need to complete. The destinations overlap, but each has a different primary scope.

How to choose a starting point
- Name the product or platform. For Microsoft 365 apps and extensions, start with its developer resources; for Azure applications, use Azure developer documentation; for Windows applications, use Windows app resources.
- Choose the kind of help you need. Look for a tutorial to learn a workflow, an API reference for precise behavior, an SDK or tool to build with, or samples for implementation examples.
- Use Microsoft Cloud documentation for cross-product work. It is the relevant starting point when your task involves integrating services across cloud product areas.
- Check the destination for task-specific material. Depending on the product, publishing information, release details, training, or support and community routes may also be available.
What the Microsoft 365 Developer Program is—and isn’t
The Microsoft 365 Developer Program is one program within the broader set of Microsoft developer resources; it is not another name for all Microsoft developer sites. Eligible members may be able to request an E5 developer sandbox after completing applicable eligibility and provisioning steps. A program sandbox is a separate subscription and environment from a production or enterprise subscription, and access is not automatic for every visitor.
