Arduino Day is a chance to share what you can make with a programmable board, from a simple button-and-buzzer instrument to a connected greenhouse. Here are 20 ideas organized by what they do: the first 10 are named winners of Arduino’s 2021 Community Challenge; the other 10 are broader ideas listed in Arduino Project Hub, not Arduino Day winners.

The 2021 challenge received more than 170 entries, according to Arduino’s recap. Project Hub is a changing community catalog, so treat its listings as starting points and check each project’s current instructions and parts before building.

Sensing and monitoring

1. Project Seismon

2021 Community Challenge winner — Swara Kadam. This robot-styled concept is intended to help schools detect and respond to earthquakes, warnings, and preparedness drills. It can inspire a school safety or sensing project, but the recap does not establish that it is a certified warning system or suitable for life-safety decisions. Arduino’s 2021 winner recap

20. Plug-and-play timer or game controller

Broader Arduino idea. If you want a guided route rather than sourcing each component independently, Arduino’s Plug and Make Kit includes an UNO R4 WiFi, seven Modulino sensors and actuators, and seven step-by-step project guides, including a timer and game controller. Arduino says the kit’s connections avoid breadboards, jumper wires, and soldering; that convenience applies to this kit’s setup, not to every Arduino build. The kit’s listed Modulino components are Knob, Pixels, Distance (time-of-flight proximity sensor), Movement, Buzzer, Thermo (temperature and humidity), and Buttons. Arduino’s Plug and Make Kit overview

How to choose a project

  • Pick the outcome first. Choose sensing for a weather or parking display, movement for a robot or gear machine, sound for an instrument, or a physical interaction for a lock or puzzle.
  • Check the build instructions, not just the title. Project Hub is community-contributed and its live catalog does not guarantee consistent difficulty, completeness, or current parts availability. Open the individual project page and confirm its creator, components, code, and steps before buying anything.
  • Match the board and components. Projects in this roundup mention boards including Uno, Nano, Micro, and MKR1010. Compatibility depends on the specific board, voltage, connector, library, and power needs; do not assume a part used in one build will work with every Arduino board.
  • Choose a guided kit only if it suits your goal. Arduino’s Plug and Make Kit is one documented guided option, with seven projects and seven Modulino components. Its simplified connections do not mean it is the best fit for every project or that every idea here can be reproduced with that kit alone.
  • Keep prototypes in their lane. The lock, earthquake-response, and exercise-related concepts are inspiration projects; the available descriptions do not establish security, emergency-warning, or equipment safety certification.

Arduino’s official event page describes Arduino Days as a free online event and invites community participation. It listed March 27–28, 2026, dates that have passed; check the Arduino Days page for current event information rather than relying on those dates for a future celebration.
