A pre-release Geekbench listing reported by HotHardware on October 7, 2024, put a purported M4 MacBook Pro at 3,864 single-core, 15,288 multi-core, and 38,153 OpenCL. The listing was described as a 16-inch system with a 10-core M4 and 16GB of RAM. Those are reported leak figures, not independently verified results or a reliable prediction of how every M4 MacBook Pro performs.
What Geekbench scores did the reported M4 MacBook Pro listing show?
HotHardware’s Paul Lilly reported that a Geekbench listing for a system identified as Mac16,1 showed the following results. The article described the system as a 16-inch MacBook Pro with a 10-core M4 processor, comprising four performance cores and six efficiency cores, clocked up to 4.41GHz, and 16GB of RAM.
| Test | Score attributed to the listing | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 3,864 | Performance in a single CPU core. |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 15,288 | Performance across multiple CPU cores. |
| OpenCL | 38,153 | Compute performance measured using OpenCL; it is a separate graphics/compute result, not a CPU score. |
All three figures and the system details are claims HotHardware attributed to a pre-release benchmark listing published October 7, 2024. HotHardware noted that the laptop had not yet been released and urged caution. The listing was not an independent test of a shipping laptop. Read HotHardware’s report.
How did the report compare the OpenCL result with M3?
HotHardware compared the reported 38,153 OpenCL score with a Geekbench M3 average of 29,282 cited in that October 7, 2024 article, describing the leak as more than 30% faster on that benchmark. That is the article’s dated comparison, not a current M3 average or evidence that every M4 MacBook Pro configuration is more than 30% faster. OpenCL should also be compared separately from Geekbench’s CPU scores.

What happened after the leak?
Apple announced the 2024 MacBook Pro family on October 30, 2024, with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chip options. The announcement confirmed the product family and features including a 12MP Center Stage camera, an optional nano-texture display, and Thunderbolt 5 on M4 Pro and M4 Max models. It did not confirm the scores in the earlier listing. Apple’s announcement also includes a promotional claim from hardware engineering chief John Ternus that the MacBook Pro is “by far, the world’s best pro laptop”; that statement is Apple’s positioning, not an independent comparative test.
How should you interpret the later Geekbench result?
A separate Geekbench Browser record provides a useful example of why configurations and submissions should not be conflated. It is for a 14-inch 2024 MacBook Pro with an M4, 10 CPU cores, and 32GB of memory. The Geekbench 6.7.1 record, uploaded July 17, 2026, reports 3,707 single-core and 14,732 multi-core. It is not the October 2024 leak: the listed screen size, memory, submission, and date differ. View the separate Geekbench Browser record.

Geekbench labels that entry a legacy Geekbench 6 result and recommends comparisons with Geekbench 6 results. Even within the same benchmark family, interpret scores alongside chip tier, device configuration, and memory; the later record cannot authenticate or disprove the earlier leak.

It can show what a particular submitted result was reported to score. By itself, it does not establish typical performance across retail machines, explain how the laptop behaves in sustained workloads, or tell you whether it is a better purchase than another model. The original listing was pre-release, and the cited later Browser result is a different submission. Neither supplies a controlled, like-for-like comparison of the full MacBook Pro lineup.

For practical comparison, keep single-core, multi-core, and OpenCL results in their own lanes, match the Geekbench version, and check the chip tier and machine configuration. Treat the October 2024 scores as an early indication reported at the time, not a settled verdict on M4 MacBook Pro performance.
