No—not according to Google’s current support information. As of October 4, 2026, Google has not scheduled Chrome deprecation for Windows 10. The major deadline that has passed is Microsoft’s end of standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Windows 10 PCs still work, but they no longer receive standard Microsoft security updates and support.

Is Google Chrome stopping working on Windows 10?

Google’s Chrome system-requirements page lists Windows 10 or later for computers with Intel processors and Windows 11 or later for ARM processors. Its deprecation table says the Windows 10 date is “Not yet scheduled.” That means there is no published basis for saying Chrome will stop working on Windows 10 next month. It is not a promise that Windows 10 will be supported indefinitely; check Google’s Chrome system requirements and deprecation schedule for changes.

Google’s September 8, 2026 announcement of a stable Chrome release for Windows desktop is also evidence of a recent Windows release, not a guarantee about future Windows 10 support. Google previously ended Chrome updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 with Chrome 109; that older cutoff does not apply to Windows 10. Google’s September 2026 stable-channel announcement.

Google has not provided an affected-PC count for a Windows 10 Chrome cutoff next month, because its current schedule does not establish such a cutoff. Broad estimates of Windows 10 devices should not be mistaken for estimates of PCs losing Chrome support.

What actually happened to Windows 10 support?

Microsoft ended standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Windows 10 computers continue to run, but covered editions no longer receive standard Microsoft security fixes, software updates, or technical support. This is an operating-system support change, separate from Chrome’s published support schedule. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support information and its Windows lifecycle FAQ.

The scale of the Windows transition is not a Chrome impact count. In October 2025, The Associated Press reported that millions of people still used Windows 10 PCs and that consumer advocates estimated hundreds of millions of devices would no longer get automatic security fixes. Those were attributed claims about Windows 10 support, not a Google estimate of computers losing Chrome. The Associated Press report.

What should you do with your Windows 10 PC?

Choose based on whether the hardware can run Windows 11, whether you have a suitable path to continued Microsoft security updates, and whether upgrading or replacing the computer makes sense for your needs. Chrome’s current requirements do not create an imminent purchase deadline for Windows 10 users.

If your PC may qualify for Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check whether Windows 11 is offered.
  2. Alternatively, use Microsoft’s PC Health Check tool to check the device against Windows 11 requirements.
  3. If eligible, back up important files before upgrading. Microsoft’s Windows Backup can help transfer files, settings, apps, and credentials.

Microsoft says eligible Windows 10 version 22H2 PCs that meet Windows 11’s minimum hardware requirements can upgrade. For current eligibility and transition guidance, see Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support page.

If your PC does not qualify, or you are not ready to upgrade

Microsoft describes Extended Security Updates (ESU) as a transition option, but eligibility, enrollment conditions, dates, and coverage can vary. Check Microsoft’s current terms for your device and location rather than assuming every Windows 10 PC qualifies or receives identical coverage.

You can also continue using the computer, understanding that standard Microsoft security updates have ended, or replace it with a supported Windows device if that best fits your security needs. Microsoft’s June 2025 transition guidance covers supported PCs and moving to a new device. Back up files before any transition; Windows Backup is one first-party option.

How to keep Chrome current in the meantime

Use Chrome’s normal update mechanism and install updates when offered. A browser update does not restore Microsoft’s Windows security support: they are separate products with separate update policies. Google’s current schedule gives no Windows 10 deprecation date, so there is no need to replace a PC solely because of a claimed Chrome cutoff next month.
