Yes—if you find a Pixel 8 in good condition at a meaningfully lower price than a newer phone. Google’s seven-year software-support commitment gives the Pixel 8 a stated update horizon into October 2030, but a refurbished or used phone is only a good buy if its battery, screen, seller protections, and price check out. Compare the actual offer in your region rather than relying on old prices.

How much support does the Pixel 8 have left?

Google says the Pixel 8 and later receive seven years of updates, counting from each device’s first availability on the Google Store in the US. The commitment covers Android OS upgrades, security updates, and Feature Drops. Google announced the policy on October 4, 2023; because the Pixel 8 first became available in October 2023, that policy points to updates into October 2030. This is Google’s stated support policy, not a promise that every feature will be available in every market.

Google’s Pixel update policy gives the current support details, and Google’s October 2023 announcement describes the seven-year commitment.

When does buying one make sense?

It may suit you if

  • You find a verified unit whose price leaves a worthwhile saving compared with a newer Pixel after trade-ins and promotions.
  • You want a smaller phone: Google lists the Pixel 8 with a 6.2-inch display.
  • You are comfortable buying refurbished or used after checking the device’s condition and the seller’s return and warranty terms.

A newer phone may be the better choice if

  • The Pixel 8 costs nearly as much as a newer model in comparable condition and storage.
  • You need the strongest available performance or have demanding workloads. A TechRadar comparison published August 21, 2025 identifies the Pixel 8’s Tensor G3 and the Pixel 10’s Tensor G5, and reports that the newer phone is more powerful; that is dated comparative reporting, not a current benchmark.
  • The specific used unit has a worn battery, damaged screen, unclear lock status, or weak return protection.

There is no reliable universal price cutoff here: the fair gap depends on your country, storage, condition, and the newer phone’s live offers. TechRadar described the Pixel 8 as cheaper but increasingly hard to find new in 2025; that observation should not be treated as a 2026 price guide. Compare current offers with the same storage and similar condition.

Google’s US Store lists a refurbished unlocked Pixel 8, but a listing does not establish current stock or availability outside the US. Check Google’s US refurbished Pixel 8 listing for its current availability and terms.

What to check before you buy

  1. Compare like with like. Check total cost after any trade-in or promotion, storage capacity, and whether you are comparing new, refurbished, or used devices.
  2. Inspect the unit and terms. Confirm battery condition, screen condition, cosmetic grade, whether the phone is unlocked, what accessories are included, and the warranty and return period. Ask the seller if a listing leaves any of these unclear.
  3. Compare the local refurbished option. Google’s US listing is one reference point, not proof that the same option or terms exist where you live.
  4. Choose by your needs. Consider the smaller 6.2-inch display, your performance and camera needs, and how much value you place on the remaining support period.

For official dimensions and other device details, see Google’s Pixel 8 specifications. If you shop a marketplace, search for “refurbished Google Pixel 8 unlocked,” then verify the individual seller’s stock, grading, battery condition, lock status, accessories, warranty, and returns rather than assuming they are standard.

Should you buy a refurbished Pixel 8?

It can be a sensible way to get the Pixel 8, provided the specific unit is in good shape and its protections are clear. The refurbished label alone does not tell you the battery’s health, cosmetic condition, included accessories, or length of warranty. Check each of those details and compare the final price with a newer phone in similar condition.

Cases and screen protectors are available for this model, but confirm that an accessory explicitly fits the Pixel 8; a similarly named Pixel model may not have the same fit.

Verdict

The Pixel 8 is not automatically too old to buy in 2026: Google’s policy gives it a substantial stated support horizon. Buy only when a particular phone’s condition, seller protections, and regional price make it a better value than the newer alternatives you can actually get.
