You can use MLB.TV on vacation only when the game is available at your physical location. MLB says blackout eligibility is based on geography and may be determined using factors such as your IP address—not just your account’s home address. MLB’s terms prohibit trying to defeat those restrictions, so the safe approach is to check the destination’s blackout status and use an authorized viewing option if the game is unavailable live.
Why MLB.TV blackouts can follow you on vacation
MLB.TV applies blackout restrictions according to where you are watching. A game that was available at home may be blacked out at your vacation destination if that location falls within a club’s home television territory. Conversely, the home address on your account does not by itself determine whether the stream is available while you travel. MLB says it may use available factors, including your IP address, to determine physical location. MLB.TV package information
Territory rules can apply whether a club is playing at home or away, and even when the game is not televised in that territory. Some U.S. clubs’ territories may extend beyond the United States, so an international destination does not automatically mean every game will be available. Check the current restrictions for the specific game and location.
How to check a game before you travel
- Identify the game and date. Blackout eligibility is game-specific; do not rely on the result from a different matchup or day.
- Check MLB’s current blackout information for your destination. MLB notes that restrictions can change and are based on physical location. Use the MLB.TV package page to check the current location-based listing.
- Look up authorized alternatives if the game is restricted. Search MLB’s partner directory for the relevant club or network, then confirm directly with the provider that it carries the exact game and permits viewing at your destination.
- Check whether another restriction applies. A participating pay-TV provider may offer an eligible authentication option, while national exclusivity or package conditions can affect availability. Check MLB’s current package details and the provider’s terms before relying on that route.
- Choose an audio or delayed option if live video is unavailable. MLB+ includes live audio for all 30 teams without blackouts, according to MLB’s current package description. MLB also says a game unavailable live becomes available as an archive approximately 90 minutes after it ends. MLB package details MLB Terms of Use
Authorized ways to follow a blacked-out game
Use the club’s or network’s authorized streaming service
MLB’s partner listings can help identify an authorized local club or network service, but coverage and location eligibility vary. Confirm that the service includes the specific game, works in your destination, and does not require a pay-TV login you will not have while traveling. MLB partner and package information

Why a VPN or location-spoofing workaround is not a safe solution
MLB’s Terms of Use prohibit circumventing or attempting to circumvent home television territory blackouts or other use restrictions. The terms state that a subscription may be terminated immediately, that a $100 early-termination charge may apply, and that legal action may be possible. They also prohibit password sharing. For that reason, do not treat VPNs, proxies, account sharing, or other location-spoofing methods as authorized ways to watch. They do not change the location-based eligibility rules, and MLB explicitly bars attempts to evade them.
