The chained outhouse on Braithwaite Manor’s grounds contains Gertrude Braithwaite, a hidden member of the family. What you find can depend on when you visit: the living encounter belongs to Arthur’s story, while guides report remains inside during a later epilogue revisit.
What’s inside? (Spoilers)
The outhouse is not an ordinary bathroom or a stash container. Gertrude Braithwaite is inside, and players can hear her through the chained door. The discovery is commonly known as “Braithwaite’s Secret.”

How to find the chained outhouse
Look on the Braithwaite Manor grounds near the small outbuildings and the edge of the estate. One location reference places the locked structure southeast of a small group of buildings, but descriptions vary; use the outbuildings as your landmark rather than relying on a precise compass bearing or distance.
Who is Gertrude Braithwaite?
Gertrude is a member of the Braithwaite family. During a relevant story interaction, Penelope identifies her as her cousin, providing the family context for the person inside. The encounter and relationship are story details; explanations about why Gertrude is confined or theories about her condition are not established here as confirmed canon.

Does the outhouse change later?
The state of the scene is reported to differ during a later epilogue revisit: secondary game guides describe remains inside rather than the living encounter associated with Arthur’s story. The available references do not establish a universal trigger or guarantee identical behavior across every save and version. They also do not substantiate a way to rescue Gertrude.
