There is no Artemis launch scheduled for today, October 4, 2026, in the NASA material reviewed. Artemis II launched on April 1, 2026. NASA announced launch coverage on NASA+ and YouTube; its 8K, 360-degree Artemis item is a mission-trajectory visualization, not live rocket footage or a VR launch broadcast.
Is an Artemis launch streaming live today?
No Artemis launch is shown as scheduled today, October 4, 2026. NASA’s March 25, 2026 Artemis II coverage advisory scheduled launch coverage for April 1, and NASA’s later streaming retrospective confirms that the mission launched that day. NASA’s schedule can change; its advisory cautioned that event dates and times were subject to change.
NASA’s NASA+ schedule is the place to check for currently listed live and upcoming events. The current-event check for October 4 showed a Crew-12 event rather than an Artemis launch, but that does not establish what NASA may announce later.
Where to watch Artemis II launch coverage
For the April 1, 2026 launch, NASA scheduled coverage on NASA+ beginning at 12:50 p.m. EDT. NASA’s advisory said coverage would continue on YouTube after Orion’s solar-array wings deployed, and pointed viewers to its event listing and Artemis blog for updates. The event has passed, so these platforms are relevant for any archived coverage NASA makes available, not for a live Artemis II launch today. See NASA’s coverage advisory for the original details.

What NASA’s Artemis 8K and 360-degree video actually shows
NASA’s Artemis II nominal trajectory visualization depicts the planned reference route from Earth around the Moon and back. It is a visualization of the mission path, not a recording or live feed of the launch.
- 360-degree version: NASA offers a monoscopic 360-degree version in 8K H.265 and ProRes.
- Other options: The page also provides a 4K H.265 version and an interactive embedded visualization.
The 360-degree file may be viewed immersively with suitable equipment, but NASA does not certify a particular headset on the page. A headset is not required for the ordinary NASA+ or YouTube coverage. This asset should not be described as a live VR event.

How the 8K and VR claims compare with NASA’s broadcast information
| Item | What NASA describes | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Artemis II launch coverage | NASA+ and YouTube, in the March 2026 advisory | Official platform information; that advisory does not specify an 8K or VR live stream. |
| Artemis II trajectory visualization | 8K H.265 and ProRes 360-degree files, plus 4K H.265 and an interactive version | A downloadable or interactive mission-path visualization, not live launch footage. |
| Artemis I launch coverage | NASA’s August 2022 advisory said coverage would be available “in 4k on NASA’s UHD channel” | Historical Artemis I information; it does not establish the Artemis II broadcast resolution. |
| Future imagery planning | NASA’s February 2025 UHD study discusses potential UHD camera views and immersive media | Study and planning material, not an announced Artemis 8K/VR broadcast. |
NASA’s 2022 Artemis I advisory is useful historical context only. It described 4K on NASA’s UHD channel; it is not evidence that Artemis II launched in 8K.

NASA’s February 3, 2025 UHD study discusses possible camera views and live-streaming capability for Artemis III, with some views potentially in UHD/4K. It also says the Handheld Universal Lunar Camera (HULC), being developed with Nikon Inc., can acquire video at up to 8K. But NASA states that “HULC will transmit only compressed still images live during extravehicular activity.” That concerns surface-imaging hardware, not a live 8K launch stream. The study also identifies VR and other immersive media as considerations; it does not announce a live VR broadcast.
