SBI waives the renewal fee if you spend at least ₹1 lakh in the preceding year. It earns Google Pay Stars, with a published base rate of 1 Star per ₹500 in cumulative spending, and approval is decided by SBI Card—not guaranteed by applying through Google Pay.
Google Pay Flex SBI Card fees
The SBI-issued Flex card has a joining fee of ₹499 plus applicable taxes and a renewal fee of ₹499 plus applicable taxes. The renewal fee is waived when you spend at least ₹1 lakh in the preceding year. Google Pay lists these terms on its Flex bill-management page, and SBI Card’s Most Important Terms and Conditions lists the same fee and waiver threshold. Check the current issuer terms for the complete schedule of charges.
Google Pay’s general Flex help says EMI conversion processing fees may apply and late-payment fees follow the issuing bank’s policy. Those statements are not a complete SBI-specific charge schedule; consult SBI Card’s current terms for charges and interest that apply to your account.
How the SBI card earns and redeems Stars
Google Pay lists a base earn rate of 1 Star for every ₹500 of cumulative spending, with no minimum amount for an individual transaction. SBI Flex cardholders receive 2X rewards during their first two reward cycles. After that, the stated 2X booster depends on spending at least ₹100 at eligible merchants in the previous cycle.

Google Pay describes higher multipliers based on total spending in a reward cycle:
| Cycle spending threshold | Published reward booster | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| ₹15,000 | 4X | Based on spending in a reward cycle; eligible merchant and issuer terms apply. |
| ₹30,000 | 8X | Google Pay states this offer runs through December 15, 2026; check the current terms because promotional conditions can change. |
Google Pay says a Star is worth ₹1 when redeemed toward eligible payments or discounts on vouchers. Stars can be used for eligible instant-cashback payments and to buy brand vouchers in Google Pay. Eligible transactions and issuer merchant-category-code restrictions apply, so the face value of a Star does not mean every purchase earns Stars or qualifies for redemption.
Welcome offers differ for RuPay and Visa
Google Pay’s setup page lists SBI welcome offers worth up to ₹1,000, with different rewards for RuPay and Visa. The rewards must be claimed within 30 days after receiving the card, and promotional terms may change.
| Network | Offer listed by Google Pay |
|---|---|
| RuPay | 750 Stars on the first transaction; a ₹250 gift card after paying ₹1 during activation within 30 days; and 500 extra Stars after completing three offline and two online transactions of at least ₹250 each. |
| Visa | 1,000 Stars on the first transaction, including 500 Stars toward the Year 1 joining-fee waiver. |
See Google Pay’s official setup and welcome-offer terms before applying or completing qualifying transactions. Confirm the applicable offer for the network on your card and its claim deadline.

Eligibility and how to apply
Google Pay does not publish a complete SBI Flex-specific checklist for minimum age, income, employment, residency or credit score in its reviewed application overview. Do not assume eligibility thresholds from another SBI card. Google Pay says the issuer assesses applications against its own criteria and the applicant’s credit profile; final approval rests with the issuing bank.
- In Google Pay, follow the Flex application flow and provide the requested personal and employment details.
- Submit the application and complete identity verification using Aadhaar and PAN.
- Wait for the issuing bank’s decision. Google Pay says it pairs an application with the partner bank offering the highest likelihood of approval, but this does not guarantee approval by SBI Card.
Google Pay’s Introducing Flex by Google Pay help page explains the application flow and issuer review. The same page covers Flex offered with both SBI Card and Axis Bank; this article’s fees and offer details are for the SBI variant, not the separate Axis Bank Flex card.

How to assess whether the card fits
Compare the value you are likely to receive with the fee and the conditions needed to earn or use rewards. For this card, consider:
- Whether your annual spending is likely to reach ₹1 lakh, the stated threshold for waiving the renewal fee.
- Whether your usual spending qualifies for the cycle multipliers and eligible-merchant rules, rather than relying on the headline 4X or 8X figures.
- Which network’s welcome offer applies, and whether you can meet its transaction and claim requirements before the deadline.
- Whether the payment or voucher options you actually use accept Stars for redemption.
- Whether SBI’s current charges and eligibility criteria suit your circumstances.
Google Pay also offers Flex in partnership with Axis Bank. Compare the issuer, fees, waiver rules, rewards, network offers and eligibility separately; the SBI terms above should not be applied to the Axis-issued version.
