Open your device’s built-in Date & Time settings to correct its clock. First check whether the date or time is wrong, or whether the clock is accurate but showing the wrong time zone: automatic date/time and automatic time-zone detection are often separate controls. If you need to set a value yourself, turn off the corresponding automatic option first.
First, identify what is wrong
If the clock is off by minutes or shows the wrong date, check the automatic date/time setting. If the displayed hour is wrong by a whole time-zone difference, check the time-zone setting separately. A device can have the correct underlying time but display the wrong local hour because it selected the wrong zone.
Automatic settings are usually easiest for everyday use and travel, but they depend on the device’s network and, on some devices, location services. Manual settings offer direct control, but you must update them yourself when the date, time, or zone changes. Menu names and availability vary by model, software version, carrier, and region.

Android TV and Google TV
TV menu paths depend on the model and software. Sony documents layouts that include Device Preferences > Date & time, as well as other platform-specific paths. A VPN network environment can also make a TV’s displayed time differ from the location. If the generic path does not match your screen, use the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact model. See Sony’s date and time guidance.

TP-Link routers
For the TP-Link router instructions documented by the manufacturer, sign in to the router’s web interface and open Advanced > System Tools > Time Settings. Depending on the model and firmware, you can get time from the internet, set the date and time manually, choose a local time zone, and configure daylight-saving start and end. TP-Link also documents controls in the Tether app under the router’s More > System section. See TP-Link’s time settings guide.
Samsung appliances
Samsung says a Family Hub refrigerator defaults to the current date and time when connected to Wi-Fi and provides a separate guide for its clock. Samsung range clocks may need to be set again after a power outage. Other appliances have their own controls, so check the instructions for the specific product at Samsung Support.
Why is my device still showing the wrong time?
- Check whether it is the clock or the zone. Confirm the date/time and time-zone controls independently; one may be automatic while the other is manual.
- Check the connection used for automatic time. Apple instructs users to connect an iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV to the internet. Samsung says Galaxy automatic time depends on the mobile network.
- Check location access when zone detection uses location. On iPhone, check the Setting Time Zone system service. Android’s use of location varies by device and settings.
- Turn off the relevant automatic control before manual editing. Some devices hide editable fields until automatic mode is disabled.
- Check restrictions if an Apple control is dimmed. Carrier or regional availability, Screen Time, or a corporate profile can limit the setting.
- For TVs and routers, use model-specific support. A VPN can affect a TV’s apparent local time; a router’s system time can affect time-based features such as parental controls.
