Yes. Google Meet works with Apple CarPlay as an audio-only experience: you can join upcoming meetings or call recent contacts and groups from the car display, but you cannot see video, participants or presentation content. The CarPlay interface offers limited controls, so features such as chat and polls remain unavailable while driving.
What Google Meet does in CarPlay
Meet’s CarPlay interface is designed for audio calls. The display shows meeting information and available controls; video is off automatically, and participants and shared presentations are not shown. Once CarPlay connects, meeting audio plays through the car speakers.
Google announced the integration on April 2, 2026. The gradual rollout for Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains began March 23, 2026, and Google said it could take up to 15 days for the feature to appear. Google lists availability for Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and people using personal Google accounts. The feature is enabled by default for users with the Meet iPhone app installed; administrators do not have a control to enable or disable it. See Google Workspace Updates’ announcement.
What you can do—and what you cannot
Available actions
- Open the Scheduled tab to see upcoming meetings and join one.
- Use History to call a recent contact or group.
- Mute or unmute yourself, and leave a meeting.
Unavailable in the driving interface
- Turn video on or view participants or presentation content.
- Use hand raise, Q&A, polls or chat.
- Admit or reject participants as a host.
Joining from CarPlay skips Meet’s pre-call screen. You may be muted automatically when joining a large meeting. If a meeting has a waiting room, the display shows a status message while you wait. Google advises parking safely before using the phone for features that are unavailable through CarPlay. Its CarPlay help page describes the supported controls and behavior.

How to set up Meet with Apple CarPlay
- Install the Google Meet app on your iPhone and update it to the latest available version.
- Connect the iPhone to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle using Bluetooth or USB, following the vehicle’s CarPlay setup instructions.
- Open Google Meet from the CarPlay display, then choose a scheduled meeting or a recent contact or group.
- If Meet requests sign-in, microphone access or another permission, respond on the iPhone when it is safe to do so.
Google says the iPhone joins the meeting alongside the car display. USB is one connection option, not a requirement for everyone; whether a cable is needed depends on the vehicle and connection setup. Check that the cable connector and vehicle port are compatible if you use wired CarPlay. CarPlay availability varies by region; Apple’s iOS and iPadOS feature availability page covers Apple’s platform, not a definitive region-by-region availability list for Google Meet.
Audio routing and meeting notices
When CarPlay connects, meeting audio moves from the phone or earbuds to the car speakers. When it disconnects, audio returns to the phone, earbuds or the previously used output. Google says Meet gives spoken notifications when a meeting is being recorded, transcribed or using Gemini.

Use Meet in CarPlay without relying on unavailable controls
Because the interface is audio-focused and offers only a small set of controls, prepare for the meeting before setting off. If you need to review visual material, use chat, participate in a poll or manage participants, stop in a safe place before using the iPhone. Do not handle the phone while driving to reach features that CarPlay does not provide.
