A strong video game pitch makes four things easy to judge: what the game is, what players do, what evidence supports the idea, and what help the team is asking for. Build the package around the recipient’s submission route; there is no single deck or budget template established for every publisher, event, or investor audience.
What a video game pitch needs to communicate
A pitch presents both the game and its business opportunity. The recipient should be able to understand the player-facing hook, see how the core gameplay works, assess the project’s current evidence, and decide whether the proposed scope and support request make sense.
Use the structure below as a practical starting point, not a mandatory slide list. For example, Devolver Digital’s Game Pitch Submission form asks for a pitch-deck URL and says it should include a demo link, financial roadmap, and what the developer wants from a publisher. Other routes have different requirements.
1. Title and one-sentence concept
Name the game and summarize its genre, intended platform or audience where known, and player-facing hook. The sentence should describe the experience rather than rely on a string of broad adjectives.

2. Core gameplay
Explain what the player does and how play progresses. Use a screenshot, short clip, or diagram if it makes the loop easier to grasp. A concept that sounds intriguing but leaves the recipient unable to picture the play is not yet clearly pitched.
3. Evidence and current project stage
Show what exists: a demo link, playable build, gameplay footage, or trailer, as appropriate. Clearly distinguish implemented features from planned ones, and identify placeholder content. A concept image or prototype is evidence of only what it actually demonstrates.
4. Audience and business opportunity
Describe who the game is for and why the project merits attention. The IGDC investor–publisher matchmaking guidance asks teams to prepare material showcasing both the game and its business opportunity. Avoid inserting market-size figures unless you can support them with a relevant, reliable source.
5. Team and delivery plan
Identify who will make the game and explain the basis for the proposed scope, schedule, and milestones. Connect the plan to the work actually shown in the prototype and to the funding or other support being requested.

6. Financial roadmap and specific ask
State the project’s financial plan and what you want from the recipient. Make clear what the requested support would pay for, what it would not cover, and what decision or assistance you are seeking. Do not leave the recipient to infer the ask from a total budget figure.
7. Links and contact details
Make the requested demo, footage, and other supporting materials easy to access. Include clear build access instructions and platform requirements where relevant, and follow the recipient’s stated submission process.

How to present a prototype honestly
A demo or gameplay clip lets a recipient inspect the proposed experience rather than rely only on description. Devolver Digital requests a demo link in its submission form. IGDC’s guidance recommends gameplay footage or a trailer and a playable build where available. Neither source establishes one minimum prototype state for every pitch.
- Link a playable build with straightforward access instructions and any platform or hardware requirements.
- Include a short, representative gameplay video for recipients who cannot immediately play the build.
- Say what the clip or build demonstrates, what remains unbuilt, and which elements are placeholders.
- Use terms such as “vertical slice” only when the build’s scope justifies them.
- Keep the evidence consistent with the production scope and budget you propose.
Do not claim testing, polish, or completeness that the material does not show. If only a small prototype exists, describe it as such and explain what work remains.

How to make the budget and funding request credible
The sources do not prescribe standard budget line items, production rates, or a typical funding amount. Treat the budget as a project-specific estimate, not as an industry-standard recipe or benchmark.
For a transparent estimate, show the assumptions behind it:
- What work and game scope the estimate covers.
- The schedule and milestones the requested funding is intended to support.
- The people, services, and other cost assumptions included in the estimate.
- What the requested publisher support pays for—and what it does not.
- Important dependencies and areas of uncertainty.
- Other financing or resources already secured, if relevant and accurate.
Align those assumptions with the team, delivery plan, and prototype evidence. An estimate that funds a much larger project than the team has described leaves the recipient without a clear way to assess the request.

Quick Recap
Final checks before sending
- Can someone understand the concept and player activity from the deck and supporting visuals?
- Does every claim about the build match what a recipient can actually see or play?
- Are scope, milestones, cost assumptions, and the requested support consistent with one another?
- Are links accessible, and are build instructions and requirements clear?
- Have you checked the recipient’s current form, eligibility, deadline, and materials list?
