Cheez-It Original has current official product and nutrition information; the Cheese Nips record located is an older 2022 product label that does not establish whether the crackers are still sold. The available evidence also does not support a fair nutrition comparison or a definitive taste winner. Here’s what can be compared reliably—and what remains uncertain.
Are Cheese Nips still available?
Cheez-It Original is documented in current official product materials. By contrast, Mondelēz’s SmartLabel record identifies “Nabisco Cheese Nips Cheddar Baked Snack Crackers 11 oz” but says the information was last updated May 24, 2022. That record confirms a product label existed; it does not confirm present-day availability.
The primary sources cited here do not establish a Cheese Nips discontinuation date or whether the crackers are currently sold in any market. The sound answer is that their current status is unresolved—not that they are definitively discontinued.
What do their ingredients and nutrition labels show?
Cheez-It Original
Kellanova’s SmartLabel lists enriched flour, vegetable oil and cheese made with skim milk as the leading ingredients, followed by smaller ingredients including salt, paprika, yeast, paprika extract color and soy lecithin. The label information was last updated September 23, 2026, and cautions that product information can change; check the package for the current details.

Cheese Nips
The Mondelēz SmartLabel record identifies an 11 oz Cheese Nips product, but it does not provide usable detailed nutrition values for a matched comparison. Without a reliable Cheese Nips label with comparable serving information, it would be misleading to set the two crackers’ calories, sodium or other nutrients side by side.

What about allergens and dietary needs?
The current Cheez-It Original label declares wheat, milk and soy. Its cheese is dairy-derived, and the brand FAQ says Original is not vegan. These statements apply to the specific Original product label, not automatically to every Cheez-It variety or past formulation. Check the package for the particular product and batch you plan to eat.
How do the crackers taste and feel?
There is no reliable, attributable comparative tasting evidence in the sources available here, so a claim that one is cheesier, crunchier or better would be opinion rather than an established product comparison. Flavor and texture preferences are personal; the available label records cannot settle which cracker a particular reader will prefer.

What happened to Cheese Nips?
On November 15, 2019, Mondelēz announced a voluntary U.S. recall of a limited quantity of 11 oz Cheese Nips boxes because small yellow, food-grade plastic pieces from a dough scraper could be present. The FDA notice limited the affected product to specified best-by dates and said no other Mondelēz products or geographies were included. At the time of the notice, no injuries or illnesses had been reported.
This was a historical, lot-specific recall. The recall notice does not establish that the incident caused a later discontinuation, and it should not be treated as evidence about the safety of unrelated products or lots.

How do the brands compare historically?
Cheez-It’s official FAQ says the brand launched in 1921 and that Mars, Incorporated owns it as of 2025, following its acquisition of Kellanova. The FAQ describes the crackers as made with “100% real cheese”; that is the brand’s wording, not an independent comparative finding. The FAQ also notes that the cheese used may vary across the Cheez-It product portfolio.
Which cracker should you choose?
If you need a product with current official label information, Cheez-It Original is the better-documented option in the sources cited here. If you are looking for Cheese Nips, verify that a retailer has a current package available and read its label; the older SmartLabel record cannot confirm current sale or provide a dependable nutrition comparison. For a taste choice, your own preference is the deciding factor because a substantiated head-to-head tasting is not available.
