In November 2023, the ransomware group LockBit published information it said it had stolen from Boeing. Boeing confirmed a cybersecurity incident affecting parts of its parts and distribution business, but the public reporting does not establish exactly what the files contained or who may have been affected. Boeing said the incident did not threaten aircraft or flight safety.
What happened in the Boeing ransomware incident?
LockBit first claimed it had taken sensitive data from Boeing and threatened to publish it unless the company met a November 2, 2023 deadline. Reuters reported on October 27 that Boeing was assessing the claim; the group did not disclose the amount of any ransom demand. Boeing’s spokesperson told Reuters: “We are assessing this claim.” Reuters via Investing.com
On November 2, Boeing confirmed a cybersecurity incident affecting elements of its parts and distribution business. The company said it was investigating, coordinating with law enforcement and regulators, and notifying customers and suppliers. TechCrunch
Between November 10 and 13, LockBit published information it alleged came from Boeing. The Record reported that the publication amounted to 50GB. That figure describes the reported volume of the posted material; it does not independently establish the files’ origin, completeness, sensitivity, or contents. The Record

Boeing later said it was aware that a criminal ransomware actor had released information it alleged was taken from company systems. The company’s spokesperson told The Record: “Elements of Boeing’s parts and distribution business recently experienced a cybersecurity incident. We are aware that, in connection with this incident, a criminal ransomware actor has released information it alleges to have taken from our systems.” The Record
What Boeing files did LockBit leak?
The public reporting cited here does not provide a complete, independently verified inventory of the published files. Boeing acknowledged the release of information that the actor alleged came from its systems, while The Record reported the 50GB volume. Those facts do not show which documents were included, whether all of them came from Boeing, or whether the posted material was complete.

For that reason, the leak should be described as information LockBit alleged it stole from Boeing—not as a verified public disclosure of a particular set of Boeing records. The available reporting also does not establish how many people, if any, had personal information included. The alleged stolen files are not a safe or appropriate source for verifying claims about their contents.
Did the incident affect flight safety?
Boeing said the incident did not affect flight safety. Its spokesperson told TechCrunch on November 2: “This issue does not affect flight safety. We are actively investigating the incident and coordinating with law enforcement and regulatory authorities. We are notifying our customers and suppliers.”

The cited reporting does not establish whether Boeing paid a ransom, negotiated with LockBit, or received a final ransom demand.
