Sometimes. A Galaxy software update can fix blurry photos when the cause is a camera-app or software bug, but it will not correct every kind of blur. Smudged lenses, poor light, movement, shooting distance, settings, and lens protectors can also affect focus and image quality. Try the checks below before deciding the phone needs service.
When an update can fix blurry Galaxy photos
Samsung says a software update can resolve app problems, including camera issues. That makes an update worth checking when blur began after a software change or appears to be a camera-app problem. It is not a universal fix: an update cannot clean a lens, steady a moving phone, or resolve every optical or hardware fault.
Samsung also describes a specific Galaxy S26 Ultra issue involving temporary screen movement and corner blur while adjusting 3x zoom, and advises keeping the device software up to date. First rule out lens, light, movement, and distance
Clean the camera lenses
Check every camera lens for fingerprints, dust, or smudges, then wipe gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Samsung warns that a smudged lens can spoil an otherwise good photo. Avoid pressing hard or applying cleaning liquid. Samsung’s guidance for blurry or poor-quality photos

Take a steady test photo in good light
Try a well-lit scene and hold the phone still as you take the picture. Low light can make blur more noticeable, and movement by the phone or subject can undermine a sharp result. If the test is clearer in better light or with a steadier hold, that points toward shooting conditions rather than proving an update is needed.
Adjust distance for the camera in use
Very close subjects and telephoto shots at short distances may not focus as expected. Samsung’s general guidance says to keep a subject at least 12 inches from the standard lens, 20 inches from the telephoto lens, and 4 inches from the ultra-wide lens; it also says Hybrid Optical 10x Zoom gives best results from 32 inches. These are general guidance from Samsung’s US support page, not universal limits for every Galaxy model.

On models with Focus enhancer, the flower control can help with close-ups; Samsung says the feature may switch to the ultra-wide camera at close range. Telephoto cameras are intended for distant subjects. For a model-specific example, Samsung’s US page gives a 5x telephoto minimum of 30 cm for the S25 Ultra and 80 cm for the S26 Ultra. Check accessories and camera settings
Test without a camera lens protector
If you use a lens cover or protector and the focus problem or distortion began while it was installed, remove it temporarily and take another photo. Samsung notes that protectors can cause focus issues or distortion. This test helps isolate a possible cause; it does not mean every protector will cause problems. Review focus and reset Camera settings
If Tracking auto-focus appears to be keeping focus on the wrong subject, turn it off and retest. If the issue seems related to a setting change, reset the Camera settings and try again. Restart, then check for available updates

Restart the phone and take a new test photo.

Check for a device update using Settings > Software update > Download and install. Install an available update, then test the camera again. The path and update availability can vary by model, region, and carrier.

Check whether a Camera app update is available by opening Camera > Settings > About Camera. This option may not appear on every model or software version.

Use Safe mode to check for app interference
Third-party apps can interfere with normal behavior. Test the camera in Safe mode, which temporarily disables downloaded apps. If photos are clear in Safe mode, a downloaded app may be involved; remove or investigate recently installed apps one at a time. If the blur persists in Safe mode, that does not by itself prove a hardware fault, but it makes a third-party app a less likely explanation. When to arrange Samsung service
Contact Samsung support or arrange service if focus still fails after cleaning the lenses, testing distance and light, checking settings, restarting, installing available updates, and testing in Safe mode. Samsung says slight clicking or whirring from the camera can be normal; grinding sounds may indicate the phone needs service. What your test results can tell you
- Blur improves after cleaning, adding light, holding steady, or changing distance: the shooting conditions or lens surface likely contributed.
- Only close-up or high-zoom photos are blurry: check which camera is active, use Focus enhancer if available, and give telephoto shots more distance.
- The problem began with a protector or setting change: test without the protector and reset the relevant Camera settings.
- The problem began around an update or affects the camera app broadly: install available device and Camera app updates, then retest.
- Blur continues across tests, including Safe mode: seek Samsung service evaluation rather than assuming another update will fix it.
These patterns help guide troubleshooting; none is a definitive diagnosis on its own.
