Generative AI can make game characters respond to player input in less scripted ways, and it can help create or adapt game content. But flexible output can also be inconsistent or unsuitable, and the AI label alone says little about a feature’s quality, safety, or data practices. Players should judge each game by what its AI does, what controls it offers, and what its own disclosures explain.
What generative AI can add to a game
Generative AI produces or adapts content—such as dialogue, images, items, or gameplay responses—rather than simply selecting from a fixed set of authored outcomes. That is different from conventional game AI such as scripted enemy behavior, recommendations, or automated moderation.
More flexible character conversations
Epic described its Fortnite creator feature, Conversations, in an April 16, 2026 announcement as a way to turn an NPC into an AI-powered character capable of unscripted dialogue and interactions, such as acting as a quest giver or narrator. That is a description of what the tool is designed to enable, not independent evidence that conversations will always be engaging, coherent, or accurate.
Content that adapts to play
AWS’s 2025 developer guide describes possible uses including adjusting difficulty in response to performance, adapting gameplay to choices or feedback, generating items, and reskinning levels. These are potential applications, not a promise that a released game will provide endless high-quality content or change its systems in meaningful ways.

New ways to explore
The Associated Press reported on a multiplayer game experiment on September 25, 2024, in which AI mediated interactions with NPCs and objects instead of restricting players to predetermined dialogue. It illustrates one kind of experimentation; it does not establish how common such designs are.
Why flexibility can be a drawback
Dynamic output may vary from one interaction to another, which can make a character feel more responsive but also less dependable. A Steam EULA for one game using language models for NPCs warns that AI-generated content is created dynamically during gameplay and is inherently unpredictable. That warning describes that game’s implementation; it should not be treated as a technical guarantee about every AI feature.

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
For a player, unpredictability can mean a response that does not fit the situation, inconsistent characterization, or an interaction that fails to provide the clarity a scripted exchange would. The examples in official feature descriptions establish possible capabilities, not consistent quality across games.
What moderation can—and cannot—promise
Moderation controls differ by platform and by feature. Roblox says its generative AI API inputs and outputs are moderated, with measures that include text filtering, image review, and asset review. Electronic Arts describes real-time text filtering and player reporting for user content. These are distinct systems, not evidence that all games use the same safeguards.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Filtering and reporting can reduce exposure to unwanted content, but their existence is not a guarantee that every unsuitable response will be blocked. When assessing a game, look for specific descriptions of its controls rather than assuming that the presence of moderation makes an open-ended feature risk-free.
What the Xbox moderation figure means
Microsoft reported that 19 million pieces of content violating Xbox Community Standards were prevented from reaching players across text, image, and video during January–June 2024. Xbox’s November 13, 2024 report discussed AI-enabled tools for blocking disruptive messages and detecting spam or advertising, but the 19 million total covers multiple content formats. It is not a count of AI-generated game content, proof that AI alone prevented every item, or a measure of moderation accuracy.

Check disclosures, data practices, and player controls
There is no single disclosure experience a player can assume across games and platforms. Roblox tells creators to disclose player interactions with generative models through its Content Maturity questionnaire. Valve’s Steamworks announcement, “AI Content on Steam,” discusses disclosure for AI used in development and in a game’s execution, as well as player reporting for illegal live-generated content. A particular game may also provide its own notices.
Data handling is game-specific. The cited game EULA points players to a separate AI disclosure notice for details about its model, data processing, safety measures, and limitations. That does not establish what another game collects or how it processes player input. Review the individual game’s listing, in-game notices, privacy information, and terms before sharing sensitive information with an AI-powered character.

Best Value
- Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback
- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
- Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
- Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
When comparing two games, use only details each one actually provides:
- Purpose: Does the feature generate NPC dialogue, create assets, adapt gameplay, or moderate content?
- Choice: Can you opt out or use a scripted alternative?
- Disclosure: Does the game explain what the feature does and identify its limitations?
- Data: What does the privacy notice say about player inputs and processing?
- Safety and recourse: Are filtering, reporting, or human review mechanisms described?
If a listing or notice does not answer one of these questions, treat the answer as unknown rather than assuming a particular control or data practice exists.
How to decide whether an AI feature suits you
Consider what you want from the game. If you value spontaneous conversations or changing responses, an AI-driven feature may be appealing, provided you are comfortable with less predictable output. If you prefer tightly authored dialogue, dependable quest instructions, or a clearly bounded experience, check whether the game offers a scripted alternative or lets you avoid the feature. The decisive details are the game’s actual implementation and the controls and disclosures it provides—not the label “AI” by itself.
