What feels different at each event?
Supercross: stadium setting and technical track
Monster Energy AMA Supercross races on custom-built tracks inside stadiums. Its official FAQ describes the racing as demanding technical precision and consistency. Stadium seating and a concentrated race program create a different spectator experience from an outdoor course. Whether a particular stadium is covered is venue-specific, so check the event listing and venue information before planning around shelter.
Pro Motocross: outdoor natural terrain
Pro Motocross runs on outdoor, natural-terrain courses. The series comparison emphasizes speed and endurance, and the setting means spectators are exposed to local conditions such as heat or rain. Weather and course conditions vary by event.
The official series comparison describes Supercross as racing on stadium tracks and Pro Motocross as racing on permanent outdoor tracks. See the SuperMotocross FAQ for the distinction.

| Feature | Supercross | Pro Motocross |
|---|---|---|
| Typical season | January through early May, according to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross FAQ. | Summer; dates vary by season. Check the official schedule. |
| Course and setting | Custom-designed track inside a stadium. | Outdoor, natural-terrain course. |
| Typical race program | Timed qualifying, heats, a Last Chance Qualifier, then 250SX and 450SX Main Events. The FAQ gives standard Main Event durations as 15 minutes plus one lap for 250 and 20 minutes plus one lap for 450. | Typically two motos per class; combined moto scoring determines overall placement, according to the AMA motocross overview. |
| Format variation | Some rounds use a Triple Crown format with three Main Events per class; confirm the event’s format in advance. | The cited AMA overview describes the typical two-moto format. |
These durations and formats are published by the organizations describing the series; check the event details because a particular round may differ.
What do the current schedules show?
As a dated example, the official schedule lists 2027 Supercross as a 17-round winter/spring series beginning January 9, 2027, and Pro Motocross as an 11-round outdoor series beginning May 29, 2027 and continuing into August. These dates illustrate that season’s calendar, not a permanent schedule. Confirm dates on the official schedule before booking.

Those events are separate from the regular-season comparison and may matter if you are choosing among championship dates.
Which event should you choose?
- Choose Supercross if you want a stadium venue, a compact technical track, a structured qualifying-and-main-event program, or a winter/spring date.
- Choose Pro Motocross if you prefer outdoor natural terrain, summer racing and the two-moto format.
- Compare actual events by date, travel distance, venue type, weather forecast, admission and seating options, and the format listed for that round. Those details can matter more than the series label.
Check logistics before buying tickets
