Start with the installation manual for the exact mirror TV. If it prohibits bathroom use or bars the place you plan to mount it, do not install it there: a GFCI, an IP rating on another product, or a bathroom mirror’s suitability cannot override that restriction. The Electric Mirror Loft manual, for example, prohibits wet locations such as shower or tub areas and places where water can easily spray onto the unit.
1. Check whether your exact model is allowed in that location
Before buying the TV or drilling, find the current installation instructions for its exact make and model. Check four things: whether bathroom use is permitted, which locations are excluded, how the unit is powered, and what mounting hardware is required. Look for any ingress-protection (IP) rating and confirm which components it covers, including a separate power supply if there is one.
The Electric Mirror Mirror-TV Loft installation instructions say: “DO NOT install in a wet location such as a shower, tub area or where water can easily spray on the unit.” That is guidance for the product covered by that manual, not a universal rule for every mirror TV. Conversely, another brand’s rating or permission does not establish that your model is suitable. If the manual does not clearly cover the intended bathroom location, ask the manufacturer before proceeding.
2. Have the position checked against local bathroom electrical rules
Bathroom electrical requirements depend on where you live and the proposed position. Do not rely on a single online bathroom-zone diagram as a universal standard. The UK-focused Crosswater bathroom electrical zones guidance points readers to the latest IET Wiring Regulations or a qualified electrician. Separately, ad notam’s November 28, 2024 guidance notes that wet-room rules vary by region and discusses German DIN VDE requirements for its own product.

Ask a qualified local electrician to assess the specific product, intended position, power connection, circuit protection, and applicable rules together—particularly if fixed wiring or a new supply is involved. Do not treat UK zone or RCD guidance, German requirements, and U.S. GFCI guidance as interchangeable.
3. Plan the mount using the model’s instructions
A mirror TV must be supported by a mounting arrangement suitable for both the unit and the wall. Follow the exact model’s instructions and use the specified or supplied attachments. The Electric Mirror manual says, “Use only the wall attachments provided by the manufacturer.”

- Check the product’s weight and the wall construction against the manufacturer’s mounting requirements.
- Confirm the specified attachments are present and appropriate for the intended installation.
- If the wall, fixings, or installation method is unclear, ask the manufacturer or a qualified installer before drilling.
There is no universal anchor type, stud spacing, or mounting height established for mirror TVs; those details depend on the model and wall. Do not substitute generic anchors based on appearance alone.
4. Follow the electrical instructions, including applicable protection
Use the connection and protection requirements in the exact model’s manual, together with local electrical rules. For the product covered by the Electric Mirror Loft manual, it states: “Electrical receptacles in a bathroom or near water must be on a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter).” This is model-specific guidance and does not make an installation safe if the manual prohibits that location.

For U.S. readers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s GFCI Fact Sheet advises testing GFCIs after installation, at least monthly, after a power failure, and according to the GFCI manufacturer’s instructions. Follow the local requirements that apply to your home; GFCI advice should not be substituted for UK RCD or other jurisdiction-specific rules.

Do not improvise with an extension, generic television, unapproved location, or a rating taken from a different mirror TV. If the manual is missing or ambiguous, contact the product manufacturer. If the bathroom position, circuit, or fixed wiring needs assessment, use a qualified local electrician. Proceed only when the exact model’s instructions, the mounting plan, and local electrical requirements all support the installation.
