For automated GitHub pull-request reviews, configure the repository’s .gemini/config.yaml and add TypeScript review conventions to .gemini/styleguide.md. For an interactive IDE review, use Gemini Code Assist Rules; for Gemini CLI, use its separate settings and project instructions. These settings are not interchangeable. Before following an IDE or CLI setup, check that your product and account are still eligible: Google says individual, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra access to Gemini Code Assist IDE Extensions and Gemini CLI ended on June 18, 2026, with affected users directed to Antigravity.
Choose the Gemini surface you want to configure
Start by deciding where you expect Gemini to review code. GitHub reviews use repository-level configuration; IDE Rules shape interactive prompts; Gemini CLI has user and workspace settings. A rule added to one surface should not be assumed to control the others.
| Where you review | Configuration surface | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub pull requests | Repository-root .gemini/config.yaml and .gemini/styleguide.md |
Automated review behavior and repository-specific review conventions. Google Cloud documentation |
| Gemini Code Assist IDE extension | Persistent Rules in Gemini Code Assist settings | Preferences considered with IDE prompts and requests. Availability varies by product and account; see Google’s availability overview. |
| Gemini CLI | ~/.gemini/settings.json for user settings; <project>/.gemini/settings.json for workspace settings |

Configure automated GitHub pull-request reviews
1. Add repository configuration
At the repository root, create a .gemini/ directory. Put review controls in .gemini/config.yaml and project-specific conventions in .gemini/styleguide.md. The example below follows the documented configuration shape; check Google’s current schema before adopting it, because product defaults and options can change.
code_review:
disable: false
comment_severity_threshold: MEDIUM
max_review_comments: -1
pull_request_opened:
code_review: true
summary: false
help: false
include_drafts: true
The documented severity options are LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, and CRITICAL. Google documents MEDIUM as the default threshold and -1 as the default maximum, meaning unlimited comments. Severity is Gemini’s assessment, not a TypeScript compiler diagnostic. The sample enables review when a pull request opens and includes drafts; summary and help comments are off in this example.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Write a TypeScript-focused style guide
Use .gemini/styleguide.md to explain what your team considers worth a review comment. These are suggested editorial conventions, not built-in Google settings or guarantees of review accuracy. For example:
# TypeScript review guidance
Prioritize actionable correctness, security, runtime-failure, and regression risks.
Flag `any` or type assertions only when they could hide a plausible bug.
Check changed asynchronous and error-handling paths, including promise rejection
and resource cleanup when relevant.
Consider whether tests cover changed behavior.
Tie each finding to the affected code, explain its impact, and suggest a minimal fix.
Do not report formatting preferences or restate established project conventions.
Adapt the guide to your repository’s actual conventions and risk areas. Review Gemini’s comments against the diff and your tests; the cited documentation does not establish a detection rate or promise complete coverage.

Reduce noise or control when reviews run
Choose the threshold and comment cap according to how much feedback the team can act on. The documented settings and their trade-offs are:
| Goal | Configuration choice | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Catch lower-impact issues too | Lower comment_severity_threshold, such as LOW |
Can produce more comments and more noise. |
| Reserve comments for consequential findings | Raise the threshold, such as HIGH |
Lower-severity findings will not be posted. |
| Set a ceiling on review volume | Set max_review_comments to a finite limit |
Findings beyond the cap may be omitted. |
| Skip draft pull requests | Set pull_request_opened.include_drafts to false |
Drafts will not receive review through that pull-request-opened event configuration. |
| Orient contributors when a PR opens | Enable summary and/or help under pull_request_opened |
Adds PR comments beyond individual findings. |
Google’s GitHub configuration documentation describes these review controls. Tune them against your team’s tolerance for comment volume rather than treating a higher threshold as proof of better review quality.

Set up interactive reviews in an IDE or Gemini CLI
Gemini Code Assist IDE Rules
Google documents persistent Rules in Gemini Code Assist settings; the Rules are considered with every prompt or request. A focused rule can ask for TypeScript feedback limited to concrete correctness risks, with severity, file and line location, rationale, and a proposed fix. Rules are separate from the GitHub .gemini/styleguide.md file. Because access changed for some account tiers on June 18, 2026, verify the currently supported product and account before relying on an IDE-extension workflow. Google’s overview directs affected individual, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra users to Antigravity and Antigravity CLI; it does not establish that enterprise or GitHub eligibility follows the same terms.
Gemini CLI settings
Gemini CLI reads user settings from ~/.gemini/settings.json and workspace settings from <project>/.gemini/settings.json; workspace settings override user settings. Keep CLI configuration distinct from GitHub’s review YAML. You can provide durable project context through the applicable CLI instructions, but these settings should not be assumed to configure automated GitHub pull-request reviews. Consult the CLI settings documentation and check current availability for your account.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Use a clear prompt for an interactive TypeScript diff
For an interactive review, make the task, scope, and desired output explicit. Google’s prompting guidance recommends direct instructions and, for long context, putting context before the specific task; that is general prompting advice, not evidence that a particular template improves review accuracy. Google’s prompt design strategies provide further guidance.
Review this TypeScript diff for actionable correctness, security, runtime, and
regression issues. Check changed async/error paths and whether tests cover changed
behavior. Report only findings tied to specific lines, ordered by severity; for
each, explain the impact and suggest a minimal fix. If you find no actionable
issue, say so. Do not rewrite the code.
For long input, provide relevant project context and conventions first, then state the review task. Treat the prompt as a way to focus the request, not as a guarantee that every defect will be found.
