If Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not launch or keeps crashing, start by identifying your platform and when the failure occurs. On Windows, check the PC requirements, repair the installed game files, and then test EA’s general troubleshooting steps one at a time. These are sensible checks, not guaranteed fixes for every Veilguard problem.
First, identify your platform and the failure point
The right troubleshooting path depends on whether you play on Windows PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. Note whether the game fails before a window appears, while starting or loading, or after you begin playing. Also record any error message and which storefront or launcher you use.
EA’s crashing and freezing support hub separates guidance by platform. Use its PlayStation- or Xbox-specific route if you play on a console; the PC steps below are not console instructions.
Check that your PC meets the requirements
EA lists these Windows specifications for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. They are compatibility targets, not a diagnosis of why a particular PC crashes.

EA’s PC requirements specify AGESA 1207 or newer in the notes for AMD AM4 processors. The game page says an online connection is not required on PC, so being offline alone is not a general launch-blocking requirement. If the error specifically mentions an account, storefront, or connection, investigate that error separately.
EA’s storage wording distinguishes “SSD Preferred, HDD Supported” from “SSD Required” for the recommended configuration. If your drive does not match the configuration you are targeting, check your PC’s drive interface and compatibility before considering an upgrade. An SSD is a storage specification, not a proven fix for crashes.

Try these PC troubleshooting steps in order
1. Check available storage and note when the failure happens
Confirm that the PC meets the minimum processor, graphics, memory, operating-system, DirectX, and storage requirements, and that the installation has the required space. Write down whether the failure happens before the title screen, during loading, or after play begins; that detail helps distinguish a startup issue from a crash during play.
2. Repair the game files
If you installed through the EA app, open Library, open the menu on the game tile, and select Repair. EA recommends repairing a game that will not load. If you use another storefront, use that storefront’s supported file verification or repair option; menu names vary, so follow its current instructions.

3. Temporarily disable the EA app overlay
EA says its in-game overlay can sometimes contribute to a crash. If you launch the game through the EA app, turn the overlay off temporarily and try again. This is a diagnostic check, not a confirmed Veilguard-specific remedy; turn it back on if it makes no difference.
4. Reduce interference from background software
Close other applications and retry. If the problem continues, EA recommends a Windows clean boot as a way to check whether background tasks are interfering. A clean boot changes which services and startup programs load, so follow Microsoft’s current Windows instructions and restore your usual startup configuration after testing.

5. Update Windows and the graphics driver
EA’s PC troubleshooting guidance recommends checking Windows and graphics-driver updates for loading or graphics problems. Install updates through Windows Update or the graphics-card maker’s official driver channel, then restart the PC and test the game again.
6. For crashes or freezes during play, try a frame-rate cap or V-Sync
EA’s general crashing guidance suggests capping the frame rate or enabling V-Sync so the game’s frame rate matches the display refresh rate. This is most relevant when the game starts but becomes unstable during play; it is not a confirmed fix for a failure before launch.

Run DxDiag in Windows and save its report. When contacting EA support or posting in an EA forum, include the DxDiag report, your platform and storefront, the exact error text, and the point at which the game fails. EA recommends DxDiag for investigating PC crashes or graphics problems.

Open EA’s platform-specific crashing and freezing guidance and choose PlayStation or Xbox. Console menus and recovery steps differ by platform; use EA’s current instructions rather than applying Windows repair, driver, or clean-boot steps to a console.
