Use your employer’s joining instructions—not a generic checklist—to confirm uniform requirements, baggage rules, restricted items, and any route-specific documents. Keep original paperwork and a few immediate essentials in your hand luggage in case your checked bag is delayed.
Start with your joining instructions and cabin space
Before packing, check the joining packet or ask your recruiter what your role requires. Uniform arrangements and personal-item requirements vary: Silversea’s 2022 new-crew guide says uniforms are issued on the first day but still tells new hires to check specific requirements, while Royal Caribbean’s FAQ suggests particular clothing and shoes for some employees. Neither list is a universal cruise-ship standard.
Storage is limited. Royal Caribbean Group advises employees to bring only what they need because cabin space is very limited, and says whether a crew member shares a cabin depends on position. Choose a compact, soft-sided case or wheeled hold-all that meets the allowance on your booked airline ticket and your employer’s baggage rules. Silversea recommends a soft case or wheeled hold-all because it can be folded away when not in use. What to pack in your checked bag
Off-duty clothes
Bring a modest rotation of everyday clothing suited to your route and expected weather, such as long pants or jeans, shirts, T-shirts, shorts, underwear, nightwear, and a sweater or other warm layer. Shoes and uniform-related items
Follow the instructions for your own position before buying or packing workwear. Royal Caribbean’s FAQ suggests one pair of black pants, a shirt, and comfortable black shoes; Silversea says uniforms are issued on the first day. These employer-specific examples do not establish what another cruise line or role will provide. Ask whether you must bring any uniform pieces, and confirm the required footwear.

For personal use, choose appropriate shoes for your itinerary and time off. Royal Caribbean’s suggested list includes tennis or beach shoes as well as a swimsuit.
Toiletries and sun protection
Royal Caribbean’s suggested toiletries include deodorant, a razor, a brush or comb, a toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, shaving cream, and sunblock. Adapt this to your needs and the airline’s rules for items in carry-on luggage.

Prescription medication
Royal Caribbean advises filling prescriptions that were cleared during the pre-employment medical for the duration of the assignment. - Cabin and laundry: What storage and laundry arrangements apply to your assignment? The cited packing lists do not specify a universal laundry schedule or clothing count.
Use official lists as starting points, then resolve these specifics with your recruiter or joining packet. Packing selectively is more practical than bringing a full civilian wardrobe for every day of an assignment.
