Delta reported about 7,000 flight cancellations over five days and claimed more than $500 million in lost revenue and extra expenses. Those figures describe Delta’s account—not a court finding or an award of damages.
What happened during the outage?
On July 19, 2024, a faulty CrowdStrike software update affected Microsoft computers, according to contemporaneous reporting. Delta said the resulting disruption affected its airline operations and led to approximately 7,000 cancellations over five days. The cancellation figure is Delta’s report in its August 8, 2024 Form 8-K, not a finding made in the lawsuit. Delta’s August 8, 2024 filing
What is Delta accusing CrowdStrike of?
Delta filed its complaint against CrowdStrike, Inc. in the Superior Court for Fulton County, Georgia. CrowdStrike’s SEC filing summarizes the complaint as alleging computer trespass, trespass to personalty, breach of contract, intentional misrepresentation or fraud by omission, strict-liability product defect, gross negligence, and deceptive and unfair business practices. Delta sought unspecified monetary damages, attorneys’ fees, and unspecified punitive damages. These are claims in a complaint; filing them does not prove liability. CrowdStrike’s SEC filing
Delta’s account of software testing
Delta alleged that CrowdStrike failed to adequately test its update before deploying it worldwide. The complaint said: “CrowdStrike caused a global catastrophe because it cut corners, took shortcuts, and circumvented the very testing and certification processes it advertised, for its own benefit and profit.” That statement is Delta’s allegation, not a court’s conclusion. CrowdStrike’s response
CrowdStrike disputed Delta’s account. An AP report quoted a company spokesperson calling Delta’s claims based on “misinformation” and saying Delta was trying to shift blame for its slow recovery. The parties therefore disagree both about CrowdStrike’s update practices and about Delta’s response to the disruption. Associated Press, October 25, 2024
How much does Delta say it lost?
Delta attributed more than $500 million in lost revenue and extra expenses to the outage, according to the Associated Press’s October 25, 2024 report. This is Delta’s estimate of its losses, not an amount a court has awarded or established. The complaint sought unspecified damages. Associated Press, October 25, 2024

What happened in the lawsuit?
On May 16, 2025, the court granted CrowdStrike’s motion to dismiss in part and denied it in part. The order dismissed part of Delta’s intentional misrepresentation/fraud-by-omission count; the rest of the motion was denied. That ruling allowed most of the challenged claims to continue past the dismissal motion, but it did not decide that CrowdStrike was liable. CrowdStrike’s SEC filing
CrowdStrike’s July 2026 SEC filing said discovery was ongoing. That is the latest procedural status established by the sources cited here; it does not confirm whether a later ruling, settlement, or trial setting occurred. The filing also does not resolve the truth of either party’s allegations or the amount, if any, Delta may ultimately recover. CrowdStrike’s SEC filing

Why the dispute is about more than the outage
The case puts several contested issues in play: whether CrowdStrike adequately tested and deployed the update, whether Delta’s recovery contributed to its losses, how the parties’ contract affects potential liability, and what damages can be supported. The available court and company filings describe claims and procedural decisions, not a final answer to those questions.
