You can ask Meta Muse to find products and help you check out, but you should verify the item, seller, price, and terms before approving a purchase. At launch, Meta says Muse uses Stripe Link for checkout: depending on the merchant, Link may use a saved payment method or issue a single-use virtual card. Neither path makes a purchase risk-free.
How to get Meta Muse to shop for you
- Describe what you want. Ask Muse to find a specific product or type of product. Include constraints such as your budget, size, preferred retailer, and latest acceptable delivery date. Meta’s launch announcement describes Muse as able to shop for products and complete purchases with user approval: Meta’s Muse announcement.
- Review the options. Check that a suggestion matches your needs rather than relying on a product name or image alone. Ask Muse to compare products or prices if that would help you choose.
- Inspect the proposed order. Before approving, check the merchant, exact product and variant, quantity, total including shipping and taxes, delivery information, and the retailer’s return policy.
- Approve only if the details are right. If something is wrong or unclear, ask Muse to revise the selection or stop. Do not approve an order whose merchant, item, amount, or delivery terms differ from what you intended.
Does Muse buy something without asking?
Meta says Muse requests approval before a purchase. Meta’s safety researchers say that when Muse reaches a checkout page where payment credentials are already on file, it prompts for human approval with the exact purchase details. Treat that approval screen as a decision point: review the order rather than assuming the agent selected correctly. Meta AI Research’s safety account also says Muse can still make mistakes and that prompt injection remains an open problem. An approval step helps prevent an unreviewed purchase; it does not verify the order for you.
How Muse checkout with Stripe Link works
Meta says Muse can check out through Stripe Link. Stripe says U.S. consumers can connect Link to Muse, approve the transaction total in the Muse chat, and keep their underlying payment details hidden from Muse. The payment route depends on whether the merchant accepts Link. Stripe’s explanation of Link for agentic commerce says Link is accepted at more than one million businesses.
| Checkout route | How payment works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Merchant accepts Link | Link can use the payment method you have saved in Link. | Confirm the merchant and order details, then approve the total shown in Muse. |
| Merchant does not accept Link | Link may issue a single-use virtual card scoped to the approved purchase. | Confirm the same order details and total before approval; a single-use card does not guarantee that the item or merchant is trustworthy. |
A single-use card can limit exposure of your underlying card number, but it does not make a bad purchase harmless. You still need to assess the seller, product, amount, delivery terms, and returns policy.

Meta checkout or the retailer’s checkout?
Some shopping flows may complete directly on Meta, while others send you to the merchant’s checkout in an in-app browser. Shopify’s merchant documentation says Meta direct checkout is available only to customers based in the United States, Canada, or Mexico, and only for eligible stores and catalog products. If Meta cannot collect required information, the shopper may be redirected to the merchant. The store remains responsible for fulfillment, returns, and customer service. Shopify’s documentation on Meta checkout describes these merchant-side conditions.
| Path | Where checkout occurs | Eligibility and responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| Meta direct checkout | On Meta, when the store and product are eligible and required information can be collected there. | Shopify documents availability for customers in the United States, Canada, or Mexico. The merchant handles fulfillment, returns, and customer service. |
| Redirected retailer checkout | On the merchant’s checkout page, which may open in Meta’s in-app browser. | May be used when Meta cannot collect the necessary information. The merchant handles the order and its service. |
Retailer access can change. Axios reported on September 21, 2026, that Amazon had moved to block Muse from shopping on its site; treat Amazon access as unavailable according to that report at that time, rather than assuming it will remain so. Axios’s report on Amazon and Muse.

What to know about privacy and safety
Payment details and connected services
Meta says credentials are stored so Muse can use them without seeing passwords or payment methods. Meta also says users can choose connected apps and access levels, disconnect services, opt out of interactions being used for model training, and ask Muse to forget specific remembered details. These are Meta’s descriptions of its product controls, not an independent security audit.
Browsing and advertising
Meta says Muse conversations and virtual-machine data are not shared with Meta’s ad systems. Separately, Meta’s researchers say browsing on your behalf can appear to the retailer as your activity, which may affect ads that retailer later shows you. The distinction is between Meta’s stated treatment of Muse data and what a retailer may infer from activity on its own site.

Residual agent risk
Meta’s safety researchers acknowledge that Muse can make mistakes and that prompt injection remains an open problem. No formal consumer-use standard or independent security certification is established by Meta’s product descriptions here. Keep human review in the loop, especially for costly or time-sensitive orders.
Are purchases through Link protected if something goes wrong?
Link lists purchase protections for eligible purchases, subject to the terms and the protections confirmed for the specific order. Its support page gives maximum claim amounts of $500 for damage, loss, or theft; $250 for no-fee returns; and $500 for price protection. These are caps, not guaranteed reimbursements. Availability and integrations can vary
Associated Press reporting said Muse launched for people 18 and older and was then available in the United States through its separate app or WhatsApp. As availability can change during a rollout, check Meta’s current app and country support before relying on those entry points. Meta’s launch announcement described Shop Pay and 1Password support as coming soon. That announcement does not establish that either integration is currently available. Shopify’s merchant documentation says Shop Pay can appear in Muse when available, but merchant configuration is not proof of broad consumer availability; check the current checkout flow.
