Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteJava’s built-in JAXP APIs let you parse XML into a DOM document, select nodes or values with XPath, and transform XML with XSLT. The standard Java SE APIs documented for Java 26 support XPath 1.0 and XSLT 1.0, so check those limits against the expressions and stylesheet features your application needs.
Choose the approach that fits the job
| Approach | Best suited to | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| DOM with XPath | Code that needs to inspect a parsed document tree and select particular nodes or values | Parses XML into a DOM Document, then evaluates XPath against that tree. The Java SE XPath API documents XPath 1.0. Oracle XPath package documentation |
XPath over an InputSource |
A workflow that evaluates an XPath expression from an input source rather than first handling a DOM document directly | The API documents evaluation of an InputSource by building a data model. It does not establish a performance advantage over DOM. Oracle XPath package documentation |
| XSLT transformation | A repeatable rule for transforming an XML source into another result | Loads a stylesheet and transforms a source into a result. The Java SE 26 TransformerFactory API documents XSLT 1.0. Oracle TransformerFactory documentation |
These are workflow choices, not speed rankings: the cited API and security documentation provide no benchmarks comparing them.
Select XML data with XPath
For a straightforward tree-based workflow, parse the input into a DOM Document, create an XPath object, then evaluate an expression against the document. This example selects the first matching item node beneath catalog:
DocumentBuilder builder = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder();
Document document = builder.parse(inputFile);
XPath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
Node selected = (Node) xpath.evaluate(
"/catalog/item", document, XPathConstants.NODE);
Use the return type that matches the question you are asking. The XPath API supports node, node-set, string, boolean, and numeric results. To select multiple nodes, use a node-set result type such as XPathConstants.NODESET; to test a condition or read a value, request a boolean or string result instead. See Oracle’s XPath package documentation for the API and examples.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Handle namespaces explicitly
In namespace-qualified XML, prefixes in an XPath expression must be resolved through a NamespaceContext associated with the XPath. A prefix used in the XPath is an expression-side binding; do not assume that the document’s own prefix will automatically work in the expression. Bind the namespace URI your query is intended to match, then use that expression prefix in the XPath.
Reuse expressions carefully
If the same expression will be evaluated repeatedly, XPath.compile(String) can create an XPathExpression for later evaluation. The API states that an XPath object is not thread-safe or reentrant, so do not share one concurrently between threads. Consult the XPath API documentation for the supported interfaces and thread-safety notes.

Transform XML with XSLT
Use javax.xml.transform when the desired operation is a source-to-result transformation expressed in a stylesheet. The basic sequence is to create a transformer from a stylesheet Source, then transform an XML Source into a Result:
TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer transformer = factory.newTransformer(stylesheetSource);
transformer.transform(xmlSource, outputResult);
The cited Java SE 26 TransformerFactory API describes XSLT 1.0 stylesheets. If your stylesheet needs features beyond XSLT 1.0, verify that the provider you select supports them rather than assuming the built-in JAXP API does. An identity transformer can copy a source to a result.

Reuse compiled stylesheet instructions safely
Templates represents processed transformation instructions and is documented as thread-safe. For separate transformation contexts, create a Transformer from the Templates; do not use one Transformer concurrently across threads. The TransformerFactory API describes these types and their roles.
Secure the parser and transformer for your inputs
XML processing can access more than the document supplied to parse. Oracle’s JAXP Security Guide warns: “The XML processors, by default, attempt to connect and read external resources that are referenced in XML sources.” For untrusted XML or stylesheets, decide explicitly whether the application needs DTDs, external stylesheet imports or includes, external documents, or extension functions, then restrict access to what it intends to trust.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Restrict external access where appropriate
The TransformerFactory API documents XMLConstants.ACCESS_EXTERNAL_DTD and XMLConstants.ACCESS_EXTERNAL_STYLESHEET for restricting access to external DTDs and stylesheet references, including imports and includes. External documents read during XSLT processing are also subject to relevant restrictions. Set controls on the actual parser and transformer factories your application uses; do not assume that configuring one factory secures every processing step. Review the TransformerFactory access-control documentation alongside the JAXP Security Guide.
Account for secure processing and resolvers
Oracle’s security guidance discusses secure-processing behavior and recommends disabling extension functions for untrusted sources. Resolver use can change how external-access restrictions apply when a resolver supplies a source. Resolve only resources the application intends to trust, and check the precise properties and feature support of the JDK and provider in use; settings and defaults are not guaranteed to be identical across all providers.

Know which configuration takes precedence
Oracle’s Java Tutorial says settings made through JAXP factories or processors take precedence over system properties and the jaxp.properties file. That tutorial is based on JDK 8, so verify configuration details against the runtime you deploy. See Oracle’s JAXP configuration scope tutorial.
