The camera most likely meant by “Fuji’s credit card-size camera” is the FUJIFILM X half, a compact digital camera announced on May 22, 2025. Fujifilm calls it a premium compact camera; its announcement does not call it credit-card-size or provide dimensions that verify that description. It weighs 8.5 ounces (240 g) with battery and memory card.
What is Fujifilm’s X half?
The X half is a small digital camera designed around the look and workflow of half-frame film photography. It pairs a 1-inch back-illuminated sensor with a fixed 10.8 mm F2.8 lens, which Fujifilm says gives a 32 mm-equivalent field of view in 35 mm terms. The lens is built in, so this is not an interchangeable-lens camera.
Its vertical orientation is central to the design: the rear LCD is 3:4, and the camera also has an optical viewfinder. Physical controls include an aperture ring and a Frame Advance Lever.
What photo effects and shooting modes does it offer?
Film-inspired looks
Fujifilm lists 13 Film Simulations, three film-inspired filters—Light Leak, Halation, and Expired Film—and eight additional filters from its instax instant-camera series. These are in-camera creative options, rather than evidence that the camera uses film.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact and light, ready to be carried anywhere – and everywhere!
- Print straight to a compatible instax printer, or share via the dedicated app
- Film camera-style retro design with dial-based control
- Unique 2-in-1 mode combines stills and/or video to give you a creative edge
- Set your own style with 26 analog-inspired film and filter options
Film Camera Mode
In Film Camera Mode, you choose a Film Simulation and a simulated roll of 36, 54, or 72 exposures. The Frame Advance Lever advances to the next shot after each picture, echoing the rhythm of shooting a roll. Fujifilm also describes a 2-in-1 feature that combines vertical stills and movies in-camera; selected still-image combinations can also be made in the X half app.
Battery life and printing
Fujifilm claims up to 880 frames per charge in normal photo mode. That is the manufacturer’s figure for that mode, not a guarantee across every use: Fujifilm says flash, video recording, and creating 2-in-1 images reduce battery life.

Fujifilm names four instax smartphone printers for direct printing: instax mini Link2, mini Link3, SQUARE Link, and Link Wide. They are sold separately. Images made in Film Camera Mode cannot be printed directly from the camera to an instax Link printer. Fujifilm describes the dedicated X half app as supporting gallery or album viewing, social uploads, and printing, but its May 2025 announcement did not establish the app’s current availability.
When was it announced, and what was the launch price?
FUJIFILM North America announced the X half on May 22, 2025, with expected availability in late June 2025. The announcement listed launch MSRPs of $849.99 USD and $998.99 CAD. Those are historical manufacturer’s suggested retail prices, not confirmation of current pricing, stock, or availability.

That wording is not substantiated by Fujifilm’s announcement. The release calls the X half a compact camera and gives its weight, but does not provide dimensions to establish that it is as small as a credit card. “Compact” is the supported description; the 8.5-ounce (240 g) weight includes the battery and memory card.

- Reimagined Half-Frame Digital Format: Inspired by classic half-frame film cameras, the FUJIFILM X half features a vertical 1" 18MP sensor with a 3:4 aspect ratio. It offers a distinct, compact shooting experience ideal for casual photographers and content creators seeking deliberate, story-driven imagery. This unique sensor layout naturally suits vertical content, perfect for modern social sharing without the need to crop or reformat.
- Film Camera Mode with Roll-Based Shooting: Film Camera Mode brings analog discipline to digital photography. Choose one Film Simulation and commit to a 36, 54, or 72-shot “roll.” You won’t see your images until the roll is digitally “developed” via app or desktop. A contact sheet is auto-generated at the end. This encourages mindful shooting, offering a tactile, immersive process for film lovers transitioning into digital workflows.
- Integrated Film Simulations and Filters: The X half includes 13 iconic Film Simulations like Velvia and Acros, with real-time selection via a secondary sub LCD. You can enhance visuals with 26 optional filters—like Halation and Light Leak—to echo classic film traits. Combined with an adjustable Grain Effect, these tools give creators full control over their image aesthetic, whether shooting stills or vertical-format video.
- Functional Design with Fixed Wide-Angle Lens: A 10.8mm f/2.8 fixed lens (32mm equivalent) ensures consistent sharpness and simplicity for street, travel, and everyday use. Manual controls include an aperture ring and front focusing ring for precision. Paired with a tactile Frame Advance Lever and a viewfinder-only composition mode, this compact camera supports instinctive, distraction-free photography rooted in traditional film ergonomics.
