An RV park stay centers on a reserved outdoor site for your vehicle; a hotel stay centers on a room. RV sites may offer utility hookups and campground facilities, but what is included varies by site. Hotel room features and RV parking likewise depend on the individual property. Compare the exact site or hotel, vehicle fit, facilities, and extra charges before booking.

What amenities does an RV park have?

RV parks and campgrounds may provide water and electrical connections, sewer access, restrooms, showers, dump stations, picnic tables, or recreation facilities. These features are not guaranteed at every property—or even in every camping area within one park.

Hookups: full, partial, or dry

KOA describes full hookups as water, electricity, and sewer. Partial hookups may include water and electricity, while dry sites have no utility connections. Confirm which connections are included at the specific site you are reserving. Also check the available electrical service against your RV’s requirements.

Restrooms, showers, and other shared facilities

Facilities can differ significantly by location. KOA says all of its locations have bathrooms with hot showers and fresh water, but that is KOA’s statement about its own locations, not a promise about other operators. At Lake Perris State Recreation Area in California, the official page lists nearby restrooms and free hot showers, as well as picnic tables, fire rings, and a dump station. Sand Hollow State Park in Utah illustrates variation within one park: its Westside RV campground lists restrooms and hot showers, while its Beachside Campground has no restrooms or showers. Check the campground area and site you plan to use.

Can you park an RV at a hotel?

Sometimes, but there is no reliable hotel-wide rule. A hotel may have a surface lot, a garage, limited spaces, height or length restrictions, or no suitable place for a large RV. Its parking availability, clearance, capacity, charges, and policies depend on the individual property. Check the hotel’s direct parking information or call before booking, and describe your RV’s dimensions and any tow vehicle.

How RV park parking works

Parking at an RV park is tied to the reserved site. A site may be back-in or pull-through, and its pad dimensions, surface, layout, and vehicle capacity determine whether your rig fits. Include slideouts, ramps, and any towing vehicle when checking dimensions; ask where an extra vehicle can go if it will not fit on the pad.

Property examples: layout and vehicle limits

Lake Perris State Recreation Area specifies back-in parking and requires vehicles to fit on the pad. Its official page describes a three-space pad arrangement and vehicle restrictions. Sand Hollow’s listed rates include one vehicle, with an additional charge for a second. These are local policies, not standard RV park rules.

Oregon State Parks’ statewide FAQ describes different campsite types and adjacent parking arrangements, limits on extra vehicles, and a $10 dump-station fee at select pilot locations. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department describes that fee as separate from camping and parking fees; it is a state-specific policy example, not a typical or national rate. The department advises checking the individual park page because fees and conditions vary.

RV park vs. hotel: what to compare

Decision point RV park or campground Hotel
Sleeping space Your RV interior and the reserved outdoor site. A room; features depend on the specific room and property.
Utilities Site-specific water, electricity and amperage, sewer, partial hookups, or dry camping. Room and building facilities listed by the hotel; RV hookups are not implied.
Shared facilities May include restrooms, showers, dump stations, or recreation amenities; verify the booked campground area. Verify the amenities offered by the specific hotel.
Parking and access Confirm site length, layout, surface, maneuvering room, vehicle capacity, and overflow rules. Confirm lot or garage access, vehicle clearance and length limits, availability, and charges.
Vehicle and other charges Check included vehicle count and any extra-vehicle, hookup, or dump-station fees. Check parking fees and whether the property can accommodate your vehicle.
Location and trip fit Check the exact park’s access and distance to your destination. Check the exact hotel’s access and distance to your destination.

Compare the full logistics, not just the nightly rate: required parking, hookups, dump-station access, and extra-vehicle charges can affect the total. The available official sources do not establish that RV parks or hotels are generally cheaper or more convenient.

Before you book an RV site

  • Confirm the exact site’s hookups, electrical service, and any limits on utility access.
  • Check pad dimensions and surface, back-in or pull-through layout, and whether your RV, slideouts, ramps, and tow vehicle will fit.
  • Verify which facilities serve the campground area, including restrooms, showers, and dump-station access.
  • Ask how many vehicles are included, what extra vehicles cost, and whether overflow parking is available.
  • Check seasonal availability and current fees on the property’s own information page.
  • Match the electrical receptacle to your RV equipment. KOA recommends a quality, UL-tested surge protector before connecting to campground electricity; an electrical adapter may be needed depending on the receptacle. Water pressure can vary, so consider a regulator if appropriate for your setup.

KOA’s RV setup guidance covers electrical and water considerations. Follow your RV and site requirements rather than assuming accessories will fit every hookup.
