Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A VALORANT hardware ID (HWID) ban restricts Riot game access from the affected computer, regardless of which account is used. An account ban, by contrast, applies to a particular account. Riot says a new account cannot get around an active device restriction, and reinstalling the game does not remove it.
Hardware ban vs. account ban
Riot distinguishes these penalties by what they restrict: an account or a device. Its HWID ban guidance describes a hardware ban as restricting access from the computer’s physical components. Riot’s Community Pact defines a permanent account suspension as permanently preventing play on a single account.
| Question | Account ban | HWID ban |
|---|---|---|
| What is restricted? | The sanctioned account. | Riot product access from the affected device. |
| Can another account play from that computer? | The penalty described by the Community Pact applies to the sanctioned account; it does not define an account ban as a device restriction. | Riot says another account used on the hardware-banned computer will also be restricted from Riot products on that device and may receive a set-period ban. |
| Does reinstalling the game remove it? | Riot’s HWID guidance does not describe reinstallation as a way to remove an account ban. | No. Riot says reinstalling a game or deleting the responsible account will not remove an HWID ban. |
| Can it be reviewed? | Review procedures depend on the account’s sanction notice and applicable support process. | Riot says a Player Support review is possible in some cases, but lifting the ban is not guaranteed. |
Can another account play on a hardware-banned PC?
Riot advises against logging in to any account on a computer suspected of having an HWID ban. The device restriction applies regardless of account, and Riot says using another account there may prompt a further, time-based restriction on that account because the system assumes an attempt to circumvent the original ban.
Does reinstalling VALORANT remove an HWID ban?
No. Riot explicitly states that reinstalling a game or deleting the account responsible for the ban does not remove an HWID restriction. The sanction is tied to the device, not just the installed game or the account. Riot does not publish a universal HWID-ban duration in its guidance, so check the notice you received or contact Player Support for information about your case.

What can lead to an HWID ban?
Riot says HWID bans generally follow patterns including extreme chat aggression or intentional feeding across many permanently banned accounts, a verifiable threat of harm against players or Riot employees, or detection of third-party scripting or cheating tools. Separately, Riot says using auto-clickers, aimbots, or other unauthorized hardware or software that creates an unfair in-game advantage can result in a permanent account ban. These policies do not mean that every account ban also carries a hardware ban. See Riot’s VALORANT cheating policy information.
How to ask Riot to review an HWID ban
- Submit a request through Riot Player Support and ask for the HWID ban to be re-evaluated.
- Riot says it will investigate and decide whether to lift or extend the ban. A reversal is possible, not guaranteed.
- If Riot lifts the HWID ban, accounts that were already banned remain banned until their own HWID-ban period ends, according to Riot’s guidance.
What VAN 152 tells you
Riot’s HWID article associates an active hardware ban with error code VAN 152. That code is a relevant clue, but do not treat every Vanguard error—or every device restriction—as proof of an HWID ban. Check the notice and ask Player Support if the scope or duration is unclear.

What Riot’s policy does not establish
Riot’s published guidance does not state a universal HWID-ban duration, identify the precise hardware identifiers involved, or publish figures for how often these bans are issued. The rules describe Riot’s policy; they do not independently verify how detection works in every case.
