Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For the current RuneScape client, start with a graphics preset that suits your device, then change only the settings that address a specific problem: interface scaling for small text, rendering scaling for image sharpness, and visual-detail options if performance is poor. Jagex’s Reignited page describes a remastered RuneScape journey but does not list its graphics controls or menu paths, so the settings below are current RuneScape guidance—not confirmed Reignited instructions.
Where to find graphics settings in the current RuneScape client
Open Options from the lobby, or press Esc in-game and choose Settings → Graphics. Jagex documents presets named Min, Low, Mid, High, Ultra, and Custom. Min is intended for exceptionally low-end devices; Custom lets you adjust individual options. Windows players can choose a resizable window or fullscreen with a selectable resolution. See Jagex’s RuneScape graphics settings guide for the current control descriptions.
Choose a starting preset before tuning individual options
Use a preset as a baseline rather than assuming Ultra is best for every computer. If the game runs poorly or your device struggles to show the game’s graphic detail, choose a lower preset first. If performance is comfortable and you want more detail, try a higher preset, then adjust specific options. Jagex does not publish comparative FPS gains for these changes, so check the result on your own device rather than expecting a particular increase.
- Low-end or struggling device: begin with a lower preset. If needed, reduce shadows, draw distance, lighting, water, and other visual effects.
- Comfortable performance, but a small or soft-looking image: adjust interface scaling or game rendering scaling to address the relevant issue.
- Want more visual detail: raise detail settings selectively and check whether performance remains acceptable.
Fix small text and tune image sharpness separately
Interface Scaling changes the size of the UI
If text, buttons, or other interface elements are difficult to read on a high-resolution display, increase Interface Scaling until they are comfortable. Jagex lists a range of 70%–300%. Larger interface elements use more of the available screen area; this setting changes UI size, not the resolution at which the game world is rendered.

Game Rendering Scaling changes the rendered image
Game Rendering Scaling controls the resolution used to render the game before it is scaled to your monitor. Jagex lists a range of 50%–200%. A value below 100% renders at a lower resolution and upscales the result, which can make the image softer; a higher value renders at a higher resolution, if supported by your setup. Treat this as an image-quality adjustment, not a guaranteed performance fix. Anti-aliasing is a separate option that smooths jagged edges and may affect performance.
Which graphics options should you change first?
Change a setting because you want a particular effect or need to address poor performance. The current RuneScape guide documents the options below; it does not provide a universal best configuration for every device.

| Setting | What it changes | When to adjust it |
|---|---|---|
| Draw Distance | How far away objects render. | Reduce it if performance is struggling; increase it if you want distant objects visible and performance allows. |
| Shadow Quality | The quality of shadows. | Lower it to reduce visual detail when the game is struggling; raise it for more detailed shadows if performance is comfortable. |
| Anti-aliasing mode and quality | Smooth jagged edges. | Enable or increase it if edge smoothing matters to you; lower or disable it if you need to reduce visual processing. |
| Water and Lighting Detail | The detail of water and lighting effects. | Lower either when prioritizing performance; increase selectively for visual detail. |
| Ambient Occlusion, Bloom, Volumetric Lighting | Additional lighting and visual effects. | Adjust these as part of a selective detail pass; reduce them if the device struggles. |
| Textures, Anisotropic Filtering, Ground Decoration, Terrain Blending | Texture appearance and environmental detail. | Keep or raise them for visual fidelity when performance is acceptable; lower relevant details if needed. |
| VSync | Synchronizes frame rate with monitor refresh and can reduce screen tearing; it may affect FPS. | Use it if tearing is distracting. If you experience input lag, try turning it off as a troubleshooting test rather than treating that as a universal setting. |
Other options in the current Graphics tab include brightness, roof removal, foreground and background FPS caps, custom cursors, loading screens, depth of field, smooth camera fade, tree canopy fade, and mouse-over entity highlights. The FPS-cap range documented by Jagex is 5–300. These controls affect different aspects of presentation or behavior; change them only if their specific effect matters to you.
Diagnose lag before changing graphics
Delayed actions do not necessarily mean graphics quality is too high. Jagex distinguishes connection problems, graphics or frame-rate problems, and input lag in its framerate and latency troubleshooting guide. FPS is the rate at which the graphics card renders frames; lowering visual settings may help when rendering performance is the issue, but it will not fix a poor connection. Jagex also notes that a TV’s display refresh rate may be lower than a monitor’s.

Try general PC checks if performance remains poor
If changing graphics options does not resolve the problem, Jagex recommends general system checks in its PC and laptop performance guide:
- Close programs you do not need while playing.
- Update graphics drivers and your operating system.
- Check the computer’s power-management settings.
- Keep a laptop on a flat surface with room for airflow; if it is running on battery, consider reducing graphics settings.
For display-specific symptoms or other graphical problems, Jagex also provides a graphical problems guide.

What is confirmed for RuneScape Reignited?
Jagex describes Reignited as a remastered journey and says later parts are planned for 2027. Its official Reignited page discusses the project and its roadmap but does not list graphics settings, defaults, or navigation paths. The current RuneScape instructions in this guide therefore should not be treated as a confirmed Reignited menu guide. Check the Reignited client or an official announcement for the controls available in that version.
