As of October 4, 2026, Minecraft and Xbox’s official materials do not confirm whether Minecraft Dungeons II supports cross-progression or cross-saves. The game is listed for several platforms, but platform availability alone does not establish that characters, campaign progress, gear, or save files transfer between them. Minecraft’s Dungeons II overview does not describe save syncing.
What cross-saves would mean for Dungeons II
Cross-progression or cross-saves would let you continue the same game progress on another supported platform. For Dungeons II, the key details would be which platforms can exchange saves, whether syncing is automatic or manual, and whether a Microsoft account is required. The official materials cited here do not answer those questions.
Minecraft’s overview lists Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. An Xbox Wire article dated September 26, 2026 also names Xbox on PC and cloud availability. Neither platform list confirms that saves sync among those versions.
Does the Hero Cape reward mean your progress transfers?
No. Minecraft Help describes the Hero Cape as a cross-game cosmetic reward for playing Minecraft Dungeons and then Minecraft Dungeons II using the same Microsoft account. Qualifying Minecraft Dungeons save data must be associated with that account. This is an eligibility condition for the reward, not confirmation that Dungeons II saves or progress transfer across platforms. See Minecraft Help’s cape and cosmetic rewards details.

Minecraft Help also says some platforms may allow play without signing in. Activity in that situation may not qualify for the reward. That account caveat applies to the Hero Cape offer; it does not establish a general Dungeons II save-sync requirement.
Why the original Dungeons cloud-save instructions do not settle it
Minecraft has an article explaining Cloud Saves for the original Minecraft Dungeons: it says a Hero can be uploaded and downloaded on another supported device while signed into the same Microsoft account. That article is specifically about the first game, so its instructions should not be assumed to work in Dungeons II. Read the original game’s Cloud Saves announcement.

Is the first Minecraft Dungeons required?
No. Minecraft’s Dungeons II overview says, “You don’t need to play the first Minecraft Dungeons to play Minecraft Dungeons II, but you might get a better experience out of the sequel if you do!” That addresses whether the earlier game is necessary, not whether its save data transfers or unlocks Dungeons II progress. Minecraft’s overview gives the full context.

Until an official Dungeons II-specific save-sync explanation is published, do not assume a save from one platform can be continued on another. Before buying or moving to another version, look for official Minecraft Help guidance or a Mojang announcement that identifies supported source and destination platforms, how syncing works, and whether the same account is needed. Save compatibility and purchase or DLC entitlements are separate questions; the available sources do not establish how either works across Dungeons II platforms.
