Asian Games golf is played over multiple rounds of stroke play: the player with the lowest total wins the individual event. At Hangzhou 2022, staged in 2023, men and women competed for separate individual and team medals, for four golf gold medals in total. Entry rules and team scoring depend on the edition.
How does the Asian Games golf competition work?
In stroke play, golfers count every stroke they take, and the lowest cumulative total across the scheduled rounds wins. The Hangzhou 2022 event overview described golf as stroke play and scheduled four days of competition, with play from September 28 through October 1, 2023, at West Lake International Golf Course. The schedule included men’s and women’s individual and team events; the organizers noted it was subject to change. See the Hangzhou golf overview and schedule.
Individual events
Each golfer’s total determines their individual standing. The lowest total wins, with medals awarded to the top finishers. The exact tie-break procedure should be confirmed for the edition in question.
Team events
Team competition is a separate medal event, not simply another name for the individual standings. Teams’ results are combined according to that edition’s technical rules. The Hangzhou overview confirms team events but does not specify which players’ scores counted or how scores were aggregated, so those details should not be assumed.
#1 Best Overall
- The Strata 12-Piece Men's is designed to give you maximum performance right out of the box for more confidence from tee-to-green. The lightweight 460cc forged driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons and putter make up a set that provides a great combination of distance, forgiveness and control, and is very easy to hit.
What format and tie-break rules apply?
The Hangzhou schedule shows four rounds of play. A useful historical reference is the OCA’s regulations for the 2018 Asian Games: those rules specified four 18-hole stroke-play rounds, and required hole-by-hole playoffs for ties for first, second, or third in individual competition. They also addressed what would happen if weather prevented a round from being played. These are 2018-edition provisions, not universal rules for every Asian Games. Check the current edition’s regulations for its round count, tie-breaks, local rules, and any weather-related adjustments. Read the OCA’s 18th Asian Games golf regulations.
Who is eligible to play in the Asian Games golf competition?
Golfers represent their National Olympic Committee (NOC), and national or territory processes select and nominate the athletes. The rules for a particular Games edition determine who may be entered and how many athletes an NOC may send.
Rank #2
- The Strata Plus Set is a full set with a great combination of distance and forgiveness right out of the box. Set includes: Driver, 3 Wood, 5 Hybrid, 6 - 9 Iron, PW & SW, Putter, Stand Bag, and 3 Head covers
- Woods: Driver has a 460cc club head with a larger sweet spot and graphite shaft for more distance off the tee. The 3 Wood promotes faster swing speeds and long shots
- Hybrid: 5 Hybrid is designed for versatility and forgiveness on shots where you would usually hit a difficult long iron
- Irons/Wedges: 6 to 9 irons, pitching wedge & sand wedge have perimeter weighting and progressive sole width technology for improved control
- Putter: Mallet putter with alignment to help give you incredible accuracy
A notable change at Hangzhou was that professionals were allowed to compete for the first time in Asian Games golf, according to the organizing committee. That change did not make entry open to every professional: athletes still had to be selected and nominated through their NOC. In July 2023, China announced men’s entrants Wu Ashun, Chen Guxin, and Ding Wenyi, and women’s entrants Lin Xiyu, Yin Ruoning, and Liu Yu. That announcement describes China’s team, not the event’s overall entry limits or a universal selection rule. Read the Hangzhou committee’s report on professional participation and China’s squad.
For a current or future edition, consult its technical handbook for NOC entry requirements, athlete limits by gender, any age or status conditions, substitutions, and team scoring. These details should not be inferred from the Hangzhou overview or from one country’s selection announcement.
