You can use a phone as a laptop webcam with built-in features when the devices are compatible: Apple’s Continuity Camera connects an iPhone to a Mac, while Windows 11’s connected-camera feature supports a linked Android phone. Set up the connection, then choose the phone as the camera in your video app.
Choose the method that matches your devices

The documented built-in routes are specific to these combinations. Microsoft’s Phone Link support for iPhone covers messages, calls, and notifications; it does not establish an iPhone-as-webcam feature for Windows.
Use an iPhone as a webcam on a Mac
Check Continuity Camera requirements
Your iPhone and Mac must be signed in to the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication enabled. Keep the devices near each other, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. Continuity Camera is on by default; check it on the iPhone under Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity or AirPlay & Handoff. Position the iPhone and connect
- Place the iPhone in a compatible mount or stand in landscape orientation, with its rear camera facing you. Keep it stable and frame yourself before joining a call.
- For wireless use, keep the phone near the Mac. For a wired connection, connect the iPhone to the Mac with a USB cable; approve any trust or access prompt that appears. Apple recommends USB if you need to charge the iPhone during use.
- Open a Mac app that can use a camera, such as FaceTime or Photo Booth. In the app’s camera menu or settings, select your iPhone. The exact menu location varies by app. Follow Apple’s setup instructions for using an iPhone as a Mac webcam.
If a magnetic mount is appealing, confirm it works with your iPhone and case; mount compatibility varies. A stand or tripod with a phone holder is another option. Match any USB cable’s connectors to the ports on your devices.

Use an Android phone as a webcam on Windows 11
Enable the connected-camera feature
- On the Windows PC, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices.
- Add and link your Android phone if it is not already linked.
- Select the phone and turn on Use as connected camera.
- In Windows or your video app’s camera settings, choose the phone as the camera. Grant camera permission on the phone if prompted.
Microsoft lists the requirements and setup steps in its connected-camera instructions.
If the Windows preview is blank or orientation is wrong
- If you see a black placeholder, check the taskbar for a camera window, enable Link to Windows camera permission in the phone’s settings, then refresh the stream.
- If the image does not rotate with the phone, check whether rotation lock is enabled.
What to try if the iPhone–Mac connection fails
- Confirm that both devices meet Apple’s model and operating-system requirements, use the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication, and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
- Update macOS, iOS, and the video app. Make sure the phone is mounted in landscape orientation.
- If the iPhone has restarted, unlock it once before trying Continuity Camera.
- Try connecting by USB or restarting both devices.
During wireless use, Apple says the iPhone may disconnect from Wi-Fi to optimize Continuity Camera and may use cellular data for background tasks. If you need to charge the phone while using it, connect by USB.
