G.SKILL demonstrated 128GB of DDR5-8400 memory using SK hynix memory chips on a Ryzen 9 9950X3D system—but its announcement describes an overclocked showcase, not a confirmed retail kit or a speed guaranteed for every Ryzen PC. The configuration used two 64GB modules, with timings of CL44-58-58-94, on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E APEX motherboard.
What G.SKILL demonstrated
In an announcement dated 2 May 2025, G.SKILL said it tested a 128GB (2x64GB) memory configuration at DDR5-8400 with timings of CL44-58-58-94. The company identified the memory ICs as SK hynix and named the test platform as an ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E APEX motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D desktop processor. G.SKILL’s announcement
The announcement says the configuration was tested with MemtestPro. It does not report comparative benchmark results or figures showing how the memory affects performance in games or applications, so the speed and timings should be read as specifications for the showcase—not as evidence of a particular real-world performance gain.
Will a 128GB DDR5-8400 kit work with your Ryzen system?
The demonstration establishes that G.SKILL reported running this configuration on one Ryzen 9 9950X3D and motherboard combination. It does not establish that every Ryzen processor, motherboard, BIOS version, or memory controller can run 128GB at 8400 MT/s.

G.SKILL describes XMP and AMD EXPO as BIOS-enabled preset overclock profiles and says that rated overclock speed and stability depend on the CPU and motherboard. Check support before buying
- Confirm that your exact motherboard supports the memory capacity and target frequency. Check its memory support information and qualified vendor list (QVL).
- Check the limits and memory-support guidance for your specific CPU and platform; a result on the 9950X3D does not guarantee the same result on another Ryzen processor.
- Update the motherboard BIOS if you are troubleshooting memory detection or stability, as G.SKILL recommends.
- Buy memory as a matched kit rather than combining separate kits. G.SKILL warns that mixing kits can prevent booting or rated-speed operation; its QVL applies to single-kit compatibility.
A QVL can help confirm a tested combination, but G.SKILL notes that QVLs are not comprehensive. A kit missing from a list is not, by itself, proof that it is incompatible.

Is the demonstrated kit available to buy?
G.SKILL’s announcement does not give the showcase a retail model number, price, or launch date, and it does not confirm that the exact configuration is available for purchase. It also notes that specifications and market availability may change. Treat listings for other 128GB DDR5 kits as different products unless their model number and specifications match the demonstrated 2x64GB DDR5-8400 CL44-58-58-94 configuration. G.SKILL’s press archive lists the announcement date as 2 May 2025.
