Not necessarily. “Lifetime” cloud storage usually means access for the lifetime of a service, product, or account—not automatically for your lifetime. The provider’s terms define the promise, including what happens if the service closes, your account is terminated, or you need to retrieve your files. Before paying, check those terms and make sure you can keep a separate copy of important data.
What “lifetime” can mean
There is no universal definition of lifetime storage. It is a contract term, and providers use it differently. For example, Browser.lol’s policy ties the entitlement to the operational lifetime of its service. Clarmont’s terms likewise define lifetime access by how long its product or service operates. By contrast, FOREVER’s terms describe a guarantee for the account owner’s lifetime and 100 years afterward, subject to the terms, full payment, and stated limits; the guarantee section does not cover Intro Accounts.
These are examples of specific providers’ wording, not industry-wide standards. Read the definition that applies to the exact plan you are buying.
What happens if the provider changes or shuts down?
A one-time payment or “no recurring charge” promise does not, by itself, establish what happens if a provider discontinues the service, withdraws a plan, suspends an account, or changes its business. Look for separate terms covering notice, export or download access, refunds, migration help, and termination.

- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- Browser.lol: Its policy says that if the service is permanently discontinued, lifetime entitlements end with the service. The policy describes plans introduced in early 2026 and later stopped for new purchases during 2026, while saying existing entitlements were unchanged. Check the current policy and service status before relying on it.
- Clarmont: Its terms say it will provide at least 90 days’ notice if the service is discontinued. That is a provider-specific notice commitment; it does not establish a general shutdown guarantee.
- Owrbit: Its terms define lifetime by the period during which it operates and list possible termination conditions, including a terms breach, abandonment, product withdrawal, or a business sale in which the buyer does not assume the plans.
- pCloud: Its promotional page advertises a one-time lifetime payment and says participation is subject to its general Terms of Service. The offer page alone does not show that the promotion is available to every visitor or specify a remedy if the service changes.
Provider terms can change, and promotional availability can vary. Save the plan description and terms shown when you buy. Do not assume that a stated notice period also guarantees a refund or enough time to download a large archive unless the terms say so.

| Provider | Lifetime wording or offer | Other stated condition |
|---|---|---|
| Browser.lol | Entitlement lasts for the operational lifetime of the service; it ends if the service is permanently discontinued. | The policy says plans introduced in early 2026 were later stopped for new purchases during 2026, while existing entitlements were unchanged. Verify current status. |
| Clarmont | Access lasts for as long as the product or service operates. | Terms state at least 90 days’ notice if the service is discontinued. |
| FOREVER | Purchased storage is described as preserved and accessible during the account owner’s lifetime and for 100 years thereafter. | Subject to terms, full payment, and other limits; the guarantee section excludes Intro Accounts. |
| Owrbit | Lifetime means the period while the provider operates. | Listed termination conditions include breach, abandonment, product withdrawal, or a sale where the buyer does not assume the plans. |
| Felicloud | Pricing page advertises one-time lifetime plans. | It says plans stack and offers optional per-folder end-to-end encryption. Its inactive-free-account deletion notice does not establish that the same condition applies to paid lifetime accounts. |
| pCloud | Promotional page advertises a one-time lifetime cloud-storage payment. | Participation is subject to its general Terms of Service; the page does not establish current availability for every visitor or a specific remedy if service changes. |

Check capacity, encryption, and account rules
A lifetime label says little about how useful the storage will be day to day. Confirm the details for the exact plan and account type before checkout.

- Capacity and upgrades: Check included storage, whether additions can stack with the plan, and any file-size, bandwidth, sharing, or fair-use limits. Felicloud’s pricing page says its lifetime plans stack; do not assume another provider does the same.
- Encryption and keys: Find out whether encryption is included by default, whether end-to-end or zero-knowledge encryption is optional or a paid add-on, which files or folders it covers, and who controls the keys. Felicloud’s page describes optional per-folder end-to-end encryption, not universal coverage by default.
- Account eligibility and inactivity: Read the acceptable-use, suspension, inactivity, and termination clauses. Felicloud says inactive free accounts may be deleted after an email warning; the cited pricing page does not establish that this rule applies to paid lifetime accounts.
- Export: Confirm how to download or export all your files in a usable format, whether there are limits, and whether you can test the process before storing an archive there.
Keep an independent backup
Do not make a lifetime cloud account the only copy of important files. TechRadar’s June 9, 2026 backup guide recommends keeping local copies and says a lifetime deal should not be the sole copy. An external hard drive can be one local-copy option; choose its capacity and connection type to suit your files and devices.
The 3-2-1 approach described by TechRadar means keeping three copies of data on two types of media, with one copy offsite. Cloud storage can serve as an offsite copy, but it should not be your only copy. A backup is useful only if you can access it, so periodically check that files open and that your export or restore method works.

Compare the price against realistic use
Compare the total one-time payment with the cost of a subscription over the period you realistically expect to use the service. Include any paid encryption or capacity upgrades in the comparison. A break-even calculation can help compare costs, but it cannot tell you whether a provider will remain in operation long enough for you to reach that point.

Checklist before you pay
- Save or print the plan description and terms shown at checkout.
- Identify exactly what “lifetime” refers to: your lifetime, the account, the product, or the continued operation of the service.
- Find the closure, notice, export, refund, and migration provisions. Check how much time you would have to retrieve your files.
- Read clauses that allow the provider to change, suspend, or terminate the plan, including conditions involving inactivity or acceptable use.
- Confirm capacity, upgrade or stacking rules, and any file-size, bandwidth, sharing, or fair-use limits.
- Check encryption coverage, whether stronger encryption costs extra, and who controls the keys.
- Test how to export files, then keep another copy on an independent device or service account.
- Compare the full cost with a realistic subscription period without assuming the service will outlast that calculation.
