To unlock Gremist’s services in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, find him at Gedyneith on Ard Skellig and complete the secondary quest Practicum in Advanced Alchemy. You must find pimpernel, make spirit at an abandoned distillery, and recruit the druid Fritjof. After completing all three favors, return to Gremist and speak with him the next day. The quest’s suggested level is 24, not a stated requirement.
Start “Practicum in Advanced Alchemy”
Travel to Gedyneith, the sacred oak area on Ard Skellig, and speak with Gremist. This is the most direct way to begin the quest. The Official Witcher Wiki lists Gremist and Otto Bamber as quest sources; other walkthrough references also mention Yolar at Gedyneith and asking alchemists about a master alchemist if that dialogue option appears. Treat those as reported leads, not required steps.

Find pimpernel
Search the woods for pimpernel with Witcher Senses. This part can lead to an encounter with a succubus. You may follow her to her lair and take the plant, or choose to side with the druid; neither choice is presented as a required condition for unlocking Gremist. The Witcher Wiki’s quest walkthrough describes this branch.
Make spirit at the abandoned distillery
- Find the abandoned distillery and deal with the enemies there.
- Inspect the distilling instructions to learn what the equipment needs.
- Locate the mash, then operate the distillery equipment as directed by the quest objective.
- Take the spirit once the process is complete.
The quest objectives include clearing the distillery, examining its instructions, finding mash, and using the equipment. Consult the listed objectives if you need to check your progress.

After all three favors are done, go back to Gremist. He asks Geralt to wait; advance the in-game time until the next day, then speak with him again to finish Practicum in Advanced Alchemy. Completion grants the ability to buy from Gremist. The quest reference also lists 240 XP and five each of sulfur, alcohest, han fiber, and saltpeter as rewards. Reward details are listed with the quest.
