The ADATA SD810 is a very small external SSD with a manufacturer-rated peak of up to 2,000 MB/s, but that speed depends on the computer you connect it to—and long writes can slow sharply after its cache fills. It is best suited to compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 PCs and portable workflows where a compact enclosure and cap-closed dust and water protection matter. Mac users should expect a lower interface ceiling.

How fast is the ADATA SD810 in real use?
On a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 host, short transfers and benchmark runs can approach the advertised rate. That is not a promise of a constant 2,000 MB/s for every computer or the entire duration of a large write. USB link capability, system configuration, workload and cache behavior all affect results.
Benchmarks on a compatible PC
TechRadar tested a unit on a compatible PC and recorded results near the rated peak. Its AJA System Test Lite result was 1,827 MB/s read and 1,673 MB/s write; CrystalDiskMark recorded 2,045.89 MB/s read and 1,854.09 MB/s write. Other test outputs were 1,920/1,730 MB/s in ATTO and 1,872.67/1,693.27 MB/s in AS SSD. These are benchmark results from that review’s setup, not guaranteed transfer rates for other machines or sustained workloads. TechRadar’s review and test results provide the full context.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Large writes can be much slower
In Tom’s Hardware’s 2024 Iometer sustained-write test of a 1TB unit, the cache lasted about a minute; after it was exhausted, the drive wrote at roughly 230 MB/s. This is a result from that particular sample and test method, not a universal speed floor or prediction for every file transfer. It does show why the SD810’s peak benchmark figures should not be treated as a sustained-write rating. Tom’s Hardware’s SD810 review also reports positive PCMark 10, DiskBench and CrystalDiskMark results against its comparison drives.
Mac performance has a lower ceiling
TechRadar found its Mac connection limited to 10Gbps, with throughput around 1,000 MB/s, rather than the 20Gbps link used to reach the SD810’s best PC results. If maximum transfer speed on a Mac is the priority, verify the exact host connection and consider USB4 or Thunderbolt storage instead.

Is the SD810 waterproof and drop-proof?
ADATA rates the SD810 IP68 for dust and water resistance, including immersion deeper than one metre for up to 60 minutes under its stated test conditions. The USB port cover must be firmly closed for that protection. The rating does not mean the drive is protected against water while connected, and it is not a reason to use it underwater.
ADATA also says the drive meets MIL-STD-810G 516.6, describing a 1.22 m impact test. Treat this as a manufacturer claim under a specified test, not a guarantee against every fall. IP68 addresses dust and water, not impact strength. PC Gamer notes that those protection categories do not establish drop resistance; its reviewer reported desk-height drops without failure but cautioned against making a habit of dropping the drive. PC Gamer’s review discusses that distinction.

TechRadar’s reviewer reported that a capped test unit continued working after a shallow-water submersion and a 1.22 m drop. Those are observations from that reviewer’s unit and setup, not independent certification results or a guarantee for every SD810. Read TechRadar’s test account.
Who should buy the ADATA SD810?
- Good fit: PC users whose host supports USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 and who want a compact, light drive for portable storage.
- Potentially useful: Photographers and video workers moving field files may value the size and cap-closed protection, but should test their own file sizes and sustained-write workflow before relying on peak speeds.
- Check carefully: Mac owners should account for the 10Gbps ceiling TechRadar observed, rather than assuming a Mac will reach the advertised PC benchmark speeds.
- Game storage: ADATA states compatibility with current-generation consoles, but check the console maker’s requirements for supported drives, formatting and game use; the evidence here does not establish console-specific transfer speeds.
What to check before choosing one
- Confirm the host port. Look for USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 / USB 20Gbps support if you want the drive’s highest potential throughput. A USB-C connector alone does not establish that capability.
- Match the drive to your workload. For frequent, very large writes, compare sustained-write behavior after cache exhaustion—not just short benchmark peaks.
- Choose capacity and verify local stock. ADATA lists 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB versions. Retail availability and prices vary by region and capacity. ADATA’s US shop showed a $94.99 listing for a silver 1TB unit marked sold out when checked for this article; that limited listing is not a current market-wide price quote. Check local sellers for the exact variant. ADATA’s US 1TB listing.
- Understand the warranty and seal. The global product page lists a five-year limited warranty. Close the port cover firmly whenever relying on the IP68 protection claim.
Alternatives should be compared by the same criteria: host interface, long-write behavior, protection conditions, capacity, and local price. Tom’s Hardware compared the SD810 with the Crucial X10 Pro and other 20Gbps and slower USB drives; the right choice depends on whether peak speed, sustained writes, Mac throughput, or protection matters most.
