Sony’s PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter launched on August 7, 2024, and lets PS VR2 owners play compatible SteamVR games on a Windows PC. It is most compelling if you already own the headset and a compatible gaming PC; it is a more expensive proposition if you need to buy the headset, adapter, cable, or PC. PC play also lacks several PS5 headset features, so it is not a feature-identical replacement for using PS VR2 with a PS5.
What the adapter does—and what it costs to set up
The adapter connects a PS VR2 headset to a compatible Windows PC for use with SteamVR. Sony’s launch announcement named Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR and War Thunder as examples of PC VR games, while noting that every game has its own PC requirements. The adapter became available globally on August 7, 2024. Sony’s estimated launch MSRPs were $59.99 in the US, €59.99 in Europe and £49.99 in the UK. These are historical launch figures, not verified current prices. Sony’s US product listing says the headset and Sense controllers are sold separately from the adapter; the required DisplayPort 1.4 cable is also sold separately. A DisplayPort 1.4 cable is required and sold separately. Sony says DisplayPort over USB-C will not work with the adapter. It also warns against connecting the adapter through a USB hub or extension. Before starting, have the adapter, a compatible DisplayPort 1.4 cable, its included AC adapter and cord, a supported Windows PC, Steam, SteamVR and the free PlayStation VR2 App ready.

- Connect the adapter to the PC’s USB 3.0 Type-A port and DisplayPort output. Use a direct USB connection, not a hub or extension.
- Power the adapter with its included AC adapter and cord, then connect the PS VR2 headset to the adapter.
- Install and open Steam, SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 App, then follow the app’s setup instructions.
- Pair each of the two Sense controllers individually over Bluetooth.
- Use the app to set the play area and install headset firmware updates when prompted.
Sony warns that results vary with the PC, system compatibility and cable quality. The minimum specification is not a promise that every SteamVR title will run well, and individual games may require more capable hardware. PlayStation Support setup instructions
Which PS VR2 features work on PC?
Sony says PC play retains the headset’s 4K visuals at 2000 × 2040 per eye, 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, see-through view, foveated rendering without eye tracking, and 3D Audio in supported games. On PC, Sony’s 3D Audio implementation uses SteamVR audio technology rather than PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech.

The PC version does not support HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers or haptic feedback beyond rumble. That means the adapter opens a new game library while giving up some features available when using PS VR2 with a PS5; it is not a way to make the PC experience identical to the console one. The adapter is easiest to justify when you already own PS VR2, have a PC that meets Sony’s requirements, and want specific SteamVR games enough to accept the missing PS5 features and the setup constraints. For a new buyer, judge it by the full cost of the headset, adapter, cable and compatible PC—not by the adapter’s historical launch price alone.
