To correct a mistake in an existing electoral-roll entry in India, submit Form 8 to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). You can apply through the Election Commission of India (ECI) Voters’ Services Portal or the Voter Helpline App, or use an available offline route. Choose the correction option, identify the incorrect detail, and attach evidence that supports the correction.
Before applying, check the electoral roll
Search the roll through the ECI Voters’ Services Portal and confirm how the entry currently appears. This helps you identify the particular to correct and the voter details needed for the application. The portal also provides ways to locate polling and electoral officials.

Which form should you use?
For a wrong name or another incorrect particular in an existing entry, use Form 8. Form 8 also has separate options for shifting residence, replacing an EPIC without correcting an entry, and marking a person with disability (PwD). Select the option that matches your case; these requests are not interchangeable.
| Situation | ECI route | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Incorrect name or other particular in an existing roll entry | Form 8 correction option | Identify the error and support the requested correction with documentation. Submit it to the concerned ERO. |
| You moved to a new address | Form 8 shifting-of-residence option | Apply to the ERO for the constituency where your new residence is located. ECI’s FAQ says a new EPIC for the shifted address retains the same EPIC number. |
| Lost EPIC and need a replacement | Form 8 replacement option | ECI’s FAQ says to include a copy of an FIR or police report for a lost EPIC. |
| Old or mutilated EPIC; no roll correction requested | Form 8 replacement option | ECI guidance says to return the old or mutilated card. This replaces the card; it is not a correction to roll particulars. |
| Duplicate electoral-roll entry to be deleted | Form 7 | ECI’s FAQ identifies Form 7 for deletion of a duplicate entry. Do not use Form 8’s correction option for this request. |
How to submit Form 8 for a correction
- Open the official service. Go to the Voters’ Services Portal and choose Form 8, or use the Voter Helpline App. ECI says the app supports roll searches and modification of voter-registration details; use the Android or iOS download links provided on ECI’s Voter Helpline App page, rather than a third-party download.
- Select the correction purpose. In Form 8, choose correction of particulars in an existing electoral-roll entry. ECI’s instructions say to tick one application option and complete the relevant section.
- Identify the entry and correction. Enter the requested voter and EPIC details, specify which particular is wrong, and provide the correct information.
- Attach supporting evidence. Name the document in the form and attach documentation that supports the claim. The required evidence depends on what you are asking to correct; follow the current form and portal instructions.
- Submit to the concerned ERO. Complete the online submission, or use an available offline route to apply to the relevant election authority. No agent or paid intermediary is required by the ECI instructions.
- Save the reference details and check status. Use the reference ID issued for an online application in the portal’s status tools. A registered elector can also access submitted forms through the dashboard. If the status or outcome is unclear, contact the concerned ERO through official ECI or Chief Electoral Officer channels.
- Check the roll after an order. Search the electoral roll again and confirm that the corrected detail appears. ECI also points users to state Chief Electoral Officer information for roll access.

Aadhaar is not universally required
Form 8 includes an Aadhaar field for authentication of entries, but it also provides an option for applicants who cannot furnish an Aadhaar number because they do not have one. Not having Aadhaar is therefore not, by itself, a reason to abandon a correction application.
If you are changing your photograph
For a Form 8 photo change, ECI guidance specifies a recent, good-quality, unsigned colour passport-size photograph with a white background, measuring 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm. This instruction applies to a photograph change, not every type of correction.
Make a truthful declaration
The Form 8 declaration says the particulars provided are true to the applicant’s knowledge and belief. ECI’s guidance warns that a knowingly false declaration is punishable under section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, with imprisonment up to one year, a fine, or both.

ECI’s FAQ does not establish a universal processing-time guarantee for a Form 8 correction. Track the application with its reference details and contact the concerned ERO if you need clarification about its status or result. Follow the current portal instructions and the ERO’s directions.
