Yes, you can play physical Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges on a computer with Epilogue’s SN Operator. It connects the cartridge to a supported computer or handheld, while Epilogue’s Playback app provides the emulator and cartridge-management features. It does not turn a PC into original SNES hardware.
What the SN Operator does
The SN Operator is a USB-connected interface for physical Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges. Epilogue describes it as a device for playing cartridges on a computer using Playback (Epilogue’s explanation of Playback). Playback supplies the in-app emulator and the interface for managing games and cartridge data; the cartridge remains part of the setup.
Epilogue lists gameplay, save and game-data backup, cartridge authenticity checking, controller support and Playback features such as achievements. The company also says saves can be synchronized between a computer and console. Its Playback documentation describes importing emulator saves back to a cartridge, so distinguish that writeback workflow from simply backing up a save.
Supported systems and Steam Deck setup
Epilogue lists Windows 10 or later, macOS 12 or later, Linux through Flatpak, Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally and Raspberry Pi. Its FAQ also mentions ASUS ROG handhelds and other Linux-capable devices. Supported-system lists and requirements can change; check Epilogue’s SN Operator product page and SN Operator FAQ for current details before setup.

Using it with Steam Deck
Epilogue specifies that Steam Deck use requires Desktop Mode and a compatible USB-C connection. Its setup documentation describes installing Playback and connecting the device. The precise experience can depend on the cable or dock and software configuration, so the product listing should not be read as a guarantee that every accessory combination will work.
Other computers and handhelds
For Linux systems, Epilogue identifies Flatpak as the distribution route. Although it names the ROG Ally and Raspberry Pi, support for a particular setup should be checked against the vendor’s current requirements rather than assumed from the device family alone.

Cartridge and game compatibility
Epilogue lists support for North American SNES, Japanese Super Famicom and PAL Super Nintendo cartridges. It also names enhancement chips including Super FX, SA-1, DSP and CX4. These are manufacturer-stated compatibility claims, not a promise that every cartridge or game will work.
Epilogue says its testing used authentic cartridges in good condition, a direct USB-C connection and systems meeting its recommended specifications. It explicitly cautions that compatibility is not guaranteed for all titles. Damaged, corroded or counterfeit cartridges may fail to function properly and could potentially damage the device. Inspect a cartridge before inserting it, and consult the manufacturer’s FAQ if you have a specific title or condition concern.

What to know about performance and features
Playback handles emulation, while the SN Operator provides the connection to the physical cartridge. Epilogue advertises low-latency gameplay, but performance depends on the host computer, USB connection, display, controller and software configuration; that wording is not an independent test result.
Authenticity checking, save management and achievements are features Epilogue lists for the device and Playback. Their presence should not be taken as independent validation that every authenticity check is definitive or every save workflow applies identically to every game.

It is relevant if you want to use your own SNES or Super Famicom cartridges with Playback on a supported computer or handheld, or manage cartridge saves through that software. Before buying, confirm that your operating system is currently supported, that your intended USB-C connection is compatible, and that your cartridges are in good condition. If you need guaranteed support for a particular game, the manufacturer does not promise universal compatibility.
