It runs iOS—not Windows Phone—and is a one-off hardware transplant, not a conversion kit. The project creator says the modified phone retains the iPhone’s A15 Bionic chip, 128 GB of storage and 5G connectivity.
What the LumiPhone mod actually is
Project creator OceanDepth95028 introduced the build as “How about iOS on a Windows Phone?” and named it the “NokiApple LumiPhone 1020 SE.” In practical terms, the Lumia 1020 provides the outer shell and styling, while an iPhone SE 3 supplies the functioning electronics and iOS. The creator’s original project post and coverage by 9to5Mac and TechSpot describe a physical hardware modification, not Windows Phone installed on an iPhone or iOS running on the Lumia’s original electronics.
The reports do not establish a retail product, ready-made kit or independently reproduced build. This is a custom project, and the reported features come from the creator and media coverage rather than an independent test.
What was changed to fit the iPhone inside
The transplant required more than swapping rear covers. The creator says the iPhone screen glass was removed and re-laminated onto the Lumia’s front glass. Because the iPhone display is slightly larger, the Lumia’s three capacitive buttons had to go. The iPhone selfie camera was also relocated to the front.

The iPhone’s Touch ID sensor was moved to the back, beneath the camera module. The iPhone’s Lightning connector remains, replacing the Lumia’s microUSB port. The headphone jack was sacrificed or sealed as part of the modification. Project coverage also reports that the iPhone’s Taptic Engine and SIM tray remain.

The 41MP and 12MP figures are the respective camera specifications cited in project coverage, not a comparison of image quality. The Lumia’s distinctive high-resolution camera is one of the features this transplant gives up in favor of the iPhone camera hardware.

How much of the iPhone SE 3 remains?
According to OceanDepth95028, “This also means that we retained practically all of the original iPhone SE 3’s internals, including the still-fairly-powerful A15 Bionic chip, and 128 GB of storage.” That is the creator’s account of this particular build, not an independent inspection or performance assessment. The reported 5G functionality is likewise a creator claim; the coverage does not provide a separate network test.
The mod’s appeal is its unusual combination of a classic Windows Phone-era exterior with iPhone hardware and iOS. It should not be read as evidence that the finished handset is more capable than either donor phone, or that the process is a straightforward, repeatable upgrade.
