On the REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G, open Settings > About tablet > Xiaomi HyperOS > Check for updates, then follow the on-screen prompts if an update is offered. Xiaomi documents this path for that model; other Redmi tablets or software versions may use different labels or menus.
Check for and install a HyperOS system update
REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G
- Open Settings.
- Tap About tablet.
- Tap Xiaomi HyperOS.
- Tap Check for updates.
- If an update is available, follow the prompts to download and install it.
Xiaomi recommends using a stable Wi-Fi connection and starting with at least 50% battery. Let the download and installation finish without interruption; Xiaomi warns that interrupting the update could cause device issues. See Xiaomi’s manual update instructions for the REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G.
If you have another Redmi tablet
The cited Xiaomi instructions cover the REDMI Pad SE 8.7, REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G, and REDMI Pad Pro 5G—not every Redmi tablet, region, or HyperOS version. Find your exact model in the tablet’s settings and follow the labels shown on your device or the matching Xiaomi support instructions rather than assuming the path above is universal.
Set system updates to download or install automatically
On the REDMI Pad SE 8.7, Xiaomi documents automatic-download controls at Settings > About tablet > Xiaomi HyperOS > three-dot menu > Update settings. The Download automatically option checks for new system versions and downloads them in the background when the tablet is connected to Wi-Fi. Xiaomi also documents an Update automatically control in Update settings for the REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G.

Choose Wi-Fi or mobile data for downloads
Wi-Fi is the option Xiaomi recommends for the documented manual update process. Mobile-data downloads are available only on some models in the cited instructions, including the REDMI Pad Pro 5G and REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G; do not expect the option on a Wi-Fi-only tablet.

For the REDMI Pad Pro 5G, open Settings > About tablet > Xiaomi HyperOS > three-dot menu > Update settings, then select Download using mobile data. Xiaomi notes that update files can be large, so check your data allowance and available storage first. The same cautions apply to the mobile-data option documented for the REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G. See Xiaomi’s instructions for the REDMI Pad Pro 5G and REDMI Pad SE 8.7 4G.
Check for an Android security update separately
Xiaomi documents a distinct Android security-update route for the REDMI Pad SE 8.7: Settings > Face data & screen lock > Privacy > Security update > Check for update. If the tablet offers an update, download and install it, making sure there is enough free storage. The menu labels are unusual; use the labels displayed on your device if they differ. Refer to Xiaomi’s Android update instructions for the REDMI Pad SE 8.7.
