Radxa’s current product name is ROCK 3B, a Pico-ITX single-board computer measuring 100 × 75 mm. Its maker specifies a quad-core Rockchip RK3568(J) processor running at up to 2.0 GHz, Arm G52-2EE graphics, and an NPU rated at up to 1 TOPS. Those are manufacturer specifications—not independent evidence that the board delivers “mid-range” performance. [Radxa product page; Radxa documentation]

What is the ROCK 3B?

The ROCK 3B is a single-board computer (SBC) built around Rockchip’s RK3568(J) system-on-chip. Radxa describes it as a Pico-ITX board; its documentation gives its dimensions as 100 × 75 mm. The name “ROCK 3 Model B” appears in older discussion, while Radxa’s current product page calls it ROCK 3B. [Radxa product page; Radxa documentation]

The available specifications describe its components and interfaces, but do not establish a comparative performance tier. No independent benchmark with a comparable test method is available in the cited product information, so treat “mid-range performance” as a positioning claim rather than a measured conclusion.

Processor, graphics, and NPU

Radxa specifies a quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 CPU with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz, an Arm G52-2EE GPU, and an NPU rated at up to 1 TOPS at INT8. These figures come from Radxa and should not be read as a prediction of performance in a particular operating system or workload. [Radxa product page; Radxa documentation]

#1 Best Overall
Radxa Rock 3C, RK3566 4-core CPU, GPU NPU 1080P@60 HDMI, Single Board Computer (Radxa Rock 3C 2GB)
  • Rockchip RK3566
  • GPU & NPU Support
  • LPDDR4 up to 8GB
  • HDMI up to 4K Output
  • Gigabit Ethernet with PoE Support

For a project decision, check that the software you plan to run supports the ROCK 3B and can use the relevant hardware acceleration. A component specification alone does not establish application compatibility, sustained speed, or performance against another SBC.

Memory and storage options

Radxa’s ROCK 3B documentation lists 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB LPDDR4 configurations. It also documents three storage routes: a microSD card, an eMMC connector for a compatible module, and an M.2 M-Key 2280 slot for an SSD. Verify the exact memory configuration and board revision in the product listing before ordering. [Radxa documentation]

  • POWERFUL PROCESSOR: Features RK3588 8-core CPU with integrated 6 TOPs NPU for high-performance computing and AI applications
  • ADVANCED CONNECTIVITY: Equipped with 8K HDMI output, dual M.2 M-Key connectors, and multiple USB ports for versatile expansion options
  • MEMORY CONFIGURATION: Utilizes high-speed LPDDR5 RAM for enhanced system performance and responsiveness
  • COMPACT DESIGN: Measures 3.5 x 3.5 x 0.5 inches, perfect for space-constrained applications and portable computing needs
  • STORAGE EXPANSION: Compatible with Penta SATA Hat accessory, enabling connection of multiple storage devices for expanded capacity
  • microSD: A removable-card option for system storage.
  • eMMC: Requires an eMMC module; the connector does not mean a module is included.
  • M.2: The documented slot is M-Key 2280. Check drive compatibility for the board and revision rather than assuming every M.2 drive will work.

Ports and expansion

Radxa’s documentation lists dual Gigabit Ethernet, USB host and OTG connections, display interfaces, camera connectivity, GPIO, and M.2 expansion. The exact connector and lane details matter when matching a display, camera, peripheral, or carrier to a build; consult the current ROCK 3B documentation and confirm the revision you are buying. [Radxa documentation]

These interfaces make the board a candidate for projects that need wired networking or hardware expansion, but the port list by itself does not establish that a particular peripheral is compatible or that a given operating system has a working driver.

Operating systems and temperature grades

Radxa names Debian and Android among the ROCK 3B system options and notes support for some third-party operating systems. Image availability and support can change, so check Radxa’s current documentation for the board and the software version you intend to use. [Radxa product page; Radxa documentation]

The product page gives separate operating-temperature ranges by grade: 0°C to 60°C for consumer grade and −40°C to 85°C for industrial grade. Confirm that a listing offers the grade your environment requires; the consumer and industrial variants should not be assumed to be interchangeable. [Radxa product page]

What to check before choosing a ROCK 3B

  • Workload and software: Confirm support for the ROCK 3B, required drivers, and any hardware acceleration you depend on.
  • Memory: Select the 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GB option that fits the workload, and verify the listing’s exact configuration.
  • Storage: Decide between microSD, a compatible eMMC module, or an M.2 M-Key 2280 SSD; confirm compatibility for the board revision.
  • Connectivity: Match the documented Ethernet, USB, display, camera, GPIO, and expansion interfaces to your peripherals.
  • Environment: Check the listed temperature grade if the board will operate outside typical indoor conditions.
  • Variant identity: Distinguish the ROCK 3B from the ROCK 3B+. Radxa’s documentation covers both, so do not assume every listed feature applies identically to each variant.

Accessories are separate setup choices

Radxa lists accessories including Display 8 HD, Display 10 FHD, Camera 8M 219, Power PD 30W, a PoE+ HAT, and eMMC products. These are optional items, not evidence that any accessory is bundled with a ROCK 3B. Check the specific listing and your project’s power, display, camera, networking, and storage requirements before purchasing. [Radxa product page]

Naming and availability

A Radxa community thread from July 19, 2021, titled “ROCK 3B ideas and discussion,” records early design discussion, not current product specifications. Radxa’s archived wiki says it is no longer maintained and directs readers to current documentation. These sources do not establish an exact commercial launch date.
