The GOWIN GW5AT-15 is an Arora V FPGA built around programmable logic and integrated high-speed interfaces, including hard-core MIPI D-PHY and C-PHY and PCIe 3.0 up to x4. GOWIN lists 15,120 LUT4s and 630 kb of block SRAM. Its 4K-video positioning is an application target, not proof of a tested end-to-end 4K pipeline.

What the GW5AT-15 is

The GW5AT-15 belongs to GOWIN Semiconductor’s Arora V transceiver FPGA series. An FPGA combines configurable logic with fixed-function resources; this device adds high-speed serial transceivers and hard MIPI interface blocks alongside its programmable fabric.

GOWIN’s Arora V product page lists these GW5AT-15 resources:

  • 15,120 LUT4s and registers
  • 630 kb block SRAM across 35 block SRAM units, plus 118.125 kb of shadow SRAM
  • 28 DSP blocks and two PLLs
  • Four transceivers
  • Up to 53 user GPIOs in the listed device configuration

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

Which high-speed interfaces it supports

MIPI D-PHY and C-PHY

GOWIN specifies hard-core MIPI D-PHY at up to 2.5 Gbps, with RX and TX, four data lanes, and one clock lane. It specifies MIPI C-PHY at up to 2.5 Gsps, with RX and TX and three trios. Those are the units and limits given on the manufacturer’s product page.

A Hackster.io announcement report separately describes three-lane C-PHY at up to 5.75 Gbps per lane and four-lane D-PHY at up to 2.5 Gbps per lane. Treat the C-PHY figure as the report’s wording: GOWIN’s page gives its figure in Gsps, and the sources do not provide the technical definition needed to equate those units.

Sipeed Tang Mega 60K CoreBoard Dock Gowin GW5AT RISCV FPGA Board
  • Package Include: 1PCS* 60K Core Board
  • 【Advanced Technology】Tang Mega 60K uses the 22nm process GW5AT-LV60P484A FPGA chip with 59904 lookup table units and 118 DSP units. It contains four high-speed transceivers with speeds ranging from 270Mbps to 6.6Gbps, which is suitable for transmitting data on high-speed ports such as PCIe.
  • 【Wide Applications】Contains hard-core PCIe and MIPI C/D PHY controllers, which consume better resources and get better performance when using PCIe. It is suitable for high-speed communication, protocol conversion, high-performance computing and other occasions.

PCIe and transceivers

The product page lists PCIe 3.0 at x1, x2, or x4 and four transceivers. GOWIN gives an Arora V GW5AT-series operating range of 270 Mbps to 12.5 Gbps, but that family range is not a promise that every GW5AT-15 package can reach its maximum.

GOWIN says MBGA transceivers can reach 10.3125 Gbps and FCPBGA transceivers can reach 12.5 Gbps. The GW5AT-15 package table lists MG132 MBGA and CS130F WLCSP, not FCPBGA. Exact supported speed depends on device grade and configuration; check the applicable datasheet and package details before designing a link around a target rate.

Packages and I/O

GOWIN’s GW5AT-15 table identifies two packages:

Package Pitch
MG132 MBGA 0.5 mm
CS130F WLCSP 0.4 mm

The same table lists 53 user I/Os, including 25 LVDS pairs. Package selection therefore affects both board-level routing and which high-speed configurations are practical; verify the full pinout and electrical limits in the relevant device documentation.

Does “targets 4K video” mean it has demonstrated 4K performance?

No. Hackster’s headline and report position the GW5AT-15 for 4K-resolution displays and high-speed display and camera interfaces. The available product description and announcement do not establish a particular resolution, frame rate, color depth, or complete video-pipeline demonstration. The 4K claim should be read as an intended application, not as a verified end-to-end performance result.

In a real design, the FPGA’s suitability depends on the entire signal path: the camera or display interface, lane configuration, pixel format and timing, required processing, memory bandwidth, board implementation, and device speed grade. The cited material does not supply a reference design or test result that resolves those system-level questions.
