DeepComputing’s DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard II is a RISC-V motherboard designed for the Framework Laptop 13 and marketed as an AI-focused PC platform. The company advertised up to 50 TOPS and local large-language-model (LLM) execution, but that figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently established benchmark. It is best understood as developer hardware: DeepComputing says its Ubuntu instance is not production-ready.

What is the DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard II?

It is a replacement mainboard built around RISC-V technology for the Framework Laptop 13. DeepComputing also marketed configurations under the name “DC-ROMA AI PC,” including laptop and Cooler Master case variants. The product listing showed different memory and storage configurations, including options with 32GB or 64GB of RAM.

This is not simply a conventional laptop upgrade. Replacing a Framework mainboard with this board changes the system’s processor architecture and software environment to RISC-V. Buyers should confirm the exact board revision, package contents, and host compatibility with DeepComputing’s technical documentation and product listing before choosing components.

What does the AI capability claim mean?

In a March 10, 2025 announcement, DeepComputing described the board as a 64-bit, eight-core RISC-V system using SiFive core IP, with an NPU and vector processor. The company advertised up to 50 TOPS and described local LLM execution as a use case. That is DeepComputing’s announced peak capability; it is not an independently verified performance result, nor does it establish how quickly a particular model will run. See the March 2025 announcement for the company’s claim.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

DeepComputing’s documentation outlines one practical demo route: an Ubuntu AI image and a containerized DeepSeek-R1-7B setup using Ollama. The repository’s Mainboard II guides also cover installation, NPU memory adjustment, and virtualization. These guides show a documented development path; they do not guarantee that arbitrary AI frameworks, models, or other applications will work.

Is it suitable for everyday or production use?

DeepComputing’s listing gives a direct caveat: “This Ubuntu instance is for RISC-V developer usage and is not production-ready.” That makes the board a more suitable fit for developers exploring RISC-V, experimenting with software ports, or following the vendor’s documented demos than for organizations seeking a supported production workstation.

A local-inference demonstration and an advertised TOPS figure do not, by themselves, establish production-grade security, privacy, software compatibility, or performance. DeepComputing says it provides product maintenance and support; its listing directs users to contact the company or its Discord. It points readers seeking Canonical support or security maintenance to Ubuntu Pro. Check the applicable support terms and software coverage with the providers before relying on them.
