Students can program it with MicroPython, Arduino code, or block-based activities, then see their code move a robot equipped with distance, color, line-following, and motion sensors. Arduino announced Alvik at Bett 2024 as a hands-on platform for robotics and programming education.
What is Arduino Alvik?
Alvik is Arduino Education’s programmable robot for classroom and independent robotics learning. Arduino introduced it at Bett 2024 in London on January 24, presenting it as a way to explore programming, robotics, IoT, physics, and engineering through physical projects. The robot kit is listed by Arduino as model AKX00066; its official product listing is the reference for current product details and availability.
Its design combines a named programmable board, a dedicated robot-control core, onboard sensors, and connectors for physical expansion. That combination lets a learner move from writing a simple instruction to observing the robot respond in the real world.
How can students program Alvik?
Arduino documents three routes: block-based coding, MicroPython, and Arduino programming. This supports a progression from arranging visual instructions to writing text-based programs, although the available software and learning materials differ in maturity.

Block-based coding
Arduino’s K–12 education page presents block-based robotics activities for learners aged 7 and up. It also identifies the Alvik release in mBlock as a beta, so schools should treat that route as an evolving option rather than assume it has the same release status as the other materials. The age guidance is Arduino’s resource recommendation, not a guarantee of individual readiness or school adoption. See Arduino’s K–12 resources.
MicroPython and Arduino programming
Arduino’s education materials position MicroPython and Arduino resources for learners aged 12 and up. MicroPython offers a text-based way to create behaviors and work with sensor input; Arduino programming provides another text-coding path. In either case, the robot supplies physical feedback: a program can make Alvik move, react to an obstacle, or follow a line.

What can learners build with Alvik?
A useful first project is a simple obstacle response: read the distance sensor, stop when an object is close, then turn and continue. From there, learners can combine inputs and outputs—for example, follow a line, alter behavior when a color is detected, and use the LEDs to indicate the robot’s state. These exercises connect code to visible movement and sensor readings.

Arduino documents LEGO Technic connectors, M3 screw connectors for custom 3D-printed or laser-cut parts, servo connections, and I2C Grove and Qwiic connectors. The company says users can attach additional sensors and motors. For example, a learner might add a custom-mounted component to a route-following project, provided the physical and electrical requirements match.

A connector name alone does not guarantee a particular third-party component will work. Before adding a sensor, cable, motor, or servo, check voltage, connector wiring, software-library support, and mechanical fit.
How is Alvik powered?
Alvik can receive power over USB-C and includes a rechargeable, replaceable 18650 lithium-ion battery. Arduino’s referenced materials do not establish a runtime, charging time, or exact replacement-cell model. Check the current product documentation before choosing a replacement battery.
What did Arduino announce in 2024?
At launch, Arduino framed Alvik as a STEAM and robotics learning tool and said its initial package included 19 comprehensive lessons. The same January 2024 release reported approximately 30 million active users in the Arduino community. That was Arduino’s community figure—not a count of Alvik owners, students using the robot, or classroom adoptions. The announcement also quoted Arduino Education head Yu Hu describing Alvik as a learning tool intended for robotics and programming education; that is the product team’s view, not an independent evaluation.
